Motorola, one of the oldest brand name in wireless communication is about to be phased out by its parent company Lenovo. In 2014, Lenovo bought Motorola from Google, but that hasn't helped the company to bounce back to its former status when it ruled the telecommunications industry.

Since it was acquired by Lenovo, some phones still carry the Motorola name but that's all about to change now. Lenovo is gradually going to stop the imprint of MOTOROLA on its smartphones soon. Though that doesn't mean it's completely gone, instead of MOTOROLA, you will only see MOTO BY LENOVO. Meaning it will continue to be used from a cooperate perspective as a division of the consumer electronics company.
In other words, Lenovo will now be using the Motorola Moto brand for its high end product whille its Vibe brand will be used for its budget devices.

We'll slowly phase out Motorola and focus on Moto," Mike Osterloh Chief Operating Officer of Motorola, said in an exclusive interview Thursday at the CES conference in Las Vegas. Though the iconic M "batwing" logo will remain, consumers will stop seeing the Motorola name on Moto products. Instead, they'll be branded Moto by Lenovo".

Explaining the strategy behind the plan, Lenovo CEO Yang Yuanqing said after the deal. "We plan to not only protect the Motorola brand, but make it stronger." Further explaining that Mike Osterloh and his business group will soon take over all mobile operations at Lenovo. This means bringing Vibe phones into markets where Moto exists, and vice versa.

In markets where the Lenovo name is strong, the company intends to introduce the Moto line as a new series of their flagship products. Motorola will use the relationships and sales channels in its territories majorly the united States to push Vibe phones that cost less than $100.

While some consider it a smart move, others feel its a shame. Be reminded that Motorola invented the cellphone many years back. And in the mid 2000s you could not mention a GSM company without Motorola mobility. Now the one-time frontrunner is about to be fizzled out of a game of started.
