Association of Airlords Supreme "EIYE" Confraternity 40th Anniversary Celebrations!!
By LEKAN AKINOSHO
lekanakins8@hotmail.com
he Supreme Brotherhood of the National Association of AIRLORDS hereby wishes its members a hearty 40th year celebration of the constitution of the SEC.

http://www.airlords.org/Main.php

Our illustrious constitution assumes its status as one of the sacred texts that has stood the test of time as ratified at the University of Ibadan in 1969 by the 'wise men of valor' that believed strongly in the espousal of the traditional African teachings towards human and spiritual excellence against the backdrop of colonial subversion of the African mind.

We hereby use this opportunity to renounce the following public perception so that the brotherhood is not misunderstood and the Supreme Confraternity's name is not smeared by public ignorance:

The Supreme "EIYE" Confraternity is NOT a cult but a socio cultural brotherhood that believes in the communion of minds
SEC believes in the traditional teachings of the ancient African oratorical practices and NOT Voodoo.
SEC is NOT a gang and as such does NOT engage in gang related activities. We renounce any forms of violence perpetrated by individuals with nefarious intent within and outside the walls of the Nigerian Ivory towers as proven by our strategic presence in the National Inter-Frat Council [NIFC] and the SEC initiative of "STOP THE CONFRA WARS"
SEC continually strives for human excellence through our initiatory traditions for its numerous members across Nigeria and the rest of the WORLD
SEC is NOT an ethnic society but a society that cuts across all barriers of the ethno-social, political, religious and economic divides in Nigeria through fraternization and the pursuit of a more just society for all via the "Brotherhood of man and the Fatherhood of God"
SEC is NOT a splinter group but an ORIGINAL African Confraternity founded on RUGGEDITY of the MIND, BODY and SOUL
SEC is NOT a secret society but a PRIVATE society that believes in the right to privacy of its membership base.
The SEC does NOT have any break-away organizations and is the ONLY tertiary institution based Confraternity that maintains its unity after over 44 years of existence "Rainbow color remains one and the same…"
With these in our consciousness, we use this opportunity to inform all members of the Supreme "EIYE" Confraternity in higher institutions of learning, ex-members, older members and dedicated members in all walks of life to use the 16th day of June 2009 as a day of solidarity with the general public where we open up our activities to the world via a traditional sing song session where our true nature can then be understood by the inquisitive public.

We have been misunderstood for long enough, as our name from inception has conjured up fear and prejudice amongst the uninitiated; beginning with the castigation by the western overlords in pre-colonial University College Ibadan; and in the past decade by the media who have had a field day through the smearing campaign of the Supreme "EIYE" Confraternity as a Cult!

The Supreme Council of the National Association of AIRLORDS hereby congratulates the efforts of the spiritual heads of its abodes and implores them fraternally to continue in the practice of the true traditions of the Confraternity through the correction of wrongs and the supremacy of the spirit over the body on the SACRED African Soil.

We hail , Ajonnnnnntuayeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!

Sanction

Grande Council

Lekan Akinosho [International] Chief Barrister Oru [National]
Grande Officer

Engr. Olukayode Olutayo Jnr [International]

The concept of brotherhood in nigerian universities confraternities,if positively channeled can over ride the tribal disunity and cankerworm in nigera. The concept of one for all and all for one, tribe, language or state not withstanding.

As bad as it may seem, there are lessons to learn from them.

when these people become leaders, are you still going to be praising them?

Or does your loyalty end when they take an oath to serve the country?

Or could it be you wont have a problem with them as long as they're ones you "know".

The people who formed this confraternity in 1969 never knew it will be bastardise like this so i think it will be unfair if we now call the founders names.
Note that you cannot call Prof. Wole Soyinka names simply for the fact that he was part of the founding member of the pyrate confraternity (PC).

I will call all of them, including Soyinka, criminals as they have failed to take any steps to curb the criminal behaviors of their members.
The fact that they can celebrate an anniversary and act oblivious to the atrocities committed by their members makes it more irritating. Rather they are spewing rhetoric of the innocence of their organization as if the rest of Nigeria were so gullible.

Soyinka has been busy criticizing the government, but has made little effort to sanitize an organization he partly founded. He condemns the government for the poor state of university education, but will not work to cleanse the fraternities that have made same institutions into living hell for innocent students. He is guilty of hypocrisy and can be judged complicit of the crime.

How sure are you of their initial intents?. Eiye has been different from others in that it has a deep spiritual connotation. It is more of a cult than a gang.

Most reports claim that the first manifestation of a campus confraternity (or campus cult) was in 1952. At that time, Wole Soyinka, Olumyiwa Awe, Raph Okpara, Aig-Imokhuede, Ben Egbuchie, Nathaniel Oyelola and Pius Oleghe (who were known as the "Magnificent Seven"wink formed the Pyrates Confraternity at the University of Ibadan. The purpose of the confraternity was to combat societal ills and conformist degradation, which were being exhibited not only by students, but by society at large. According to the Pyrates, the first graduates of the University of Ibadan were elitist, as they were highly privileged since they were the first graduating class of Nigeria's first university [1]. Most of the university students adopted elitist behavior, imitating the dress of the colonialists and mimicking their culture. Wole Soyinka, who was code-named "Captain Blood," together with his colleagues felt that the pretenses should be stopped. A notable incident that further provoked the Pyrates occurred after many privileged students organized a demonstration against the construction of a rail-line that was to be built across a road leading to their campus. The students were afraid that improved transportation access to the university would reduce its exclusivity. The Pyrates decided to fight what they believed to be elitist nonsense. They succeeded not only in ridiculing the students' argument, but also accomplished the construction of the rail-line [2].

Membership in the Pyrates Confraternity was offered to intellectually promising men with no discrimination as to race, color or tribe. The majority of those who applied to join the Pyrates were not accepted. The activity of members was rigidly controlled and the group promoted non-violent dispute resolution. From 1953 to 1972, the Pyrates was the only confraternity on Nigerian campuses [3].

The Emergence of Pseudo-Confraternities

In the early 1970s, several confraternities emerged. In 1972, a member of the Pyrates Confraternity, Dr. Bolaji Carew (code-named "Late Ahoy Rica Ricardo"wink, and other members were accused of not following the teachings of the confraternity and were unexpectedly expelled. As a result of this incident and other problems, the Pyrates pulled out of Nigeria's universities. They then registered themselves in Nigeria under the name of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS). Carew later founded the Buccaneers Confraternity (also called the National Associations of Sea Lords). In the formation of the new confraternity, Carew took with him many elements of the Pyrates, including similar attire and symbols of the cult as well as its highly regimented and hierarchical structure (The Midweek Telegraph, August 10-16, 2005). The origin of confraternity violence dates back to Carew's 1972 saga and the birth of the Buccaneers (The Midweek Telegraph, August 10-16, 2005).

Am not sure I get the point of your post.
Pyrates did not pull out of campuses till 1984, by then the damage had been done. Most secrets cults like airlords (eiye) and buccaneers were offshoots or grand offshoot of the pyrates confraternity, and they had been constituting a nuisance since the late 60s. It all started with the pyrates.

I don't know why you are bent on blaming Wole Soyinka for all the lives lost in secret cultism. I posted an article above to let you know he was not the only guy that started the sea dogs besides, there intents could be different than what is obtainable now. Bottom line is the govt has failed us and the people are angry hence the series of decapitations within and outside our various institutions. They had slavery in america, the KKK rose into power after that but nobody is blaming the founding fathers for the mayhem they cause. the younger generation should take charge and resist these groups. I was in the Nigerian university and we knew the secret cult members and all it takes is for us to have a secure avenue where we can report them and have them taken out from the midst of those that came to school to learn.

it seems your aim is to use nairaland to get at your "enemy" eiye confra. if not, i don't know why you suddenly turn 180 degrees in defence of another murderous gang and its main mind. soyinka cannot be exonerated from violence, ruggery, irresponsibility, thuggery and murder that his children in pirate are committing on innocent nigerians. he is the godfather of violence on nigerian campuses no matter how many nobel prizes he receives. prof. olumuyiwa awe one of the seven murderous gangs has since regretted his role and sought salvation. all your balderdash about their intention flies in the face of prof awe's confession.

i don't see how you want us to condemn eiye for you while praising your own group. we cant be used.

aloy i dont know if you started this thread to condemn or condone cultism, why are you defending Pirates? whether you and Soyinka like how it sounds or not , the blood of all nigerian youths that have died as a result of campus cultism is on his (Soyinka) head. the blood of Niger Delta casualties are also on his head, b/c it was their apparatus that Odili used to start all the chaos in ND now.
