End Of Blackberry OS Is Here, Android Is Taking Over? by Tallesty1(m): 11:27am On Jan 09, 2016
A statement made by blackberry CEO John Chen at the ongoing CES 2016 in Las Vegas suggest that BlackBerry is not going to launch any smartphone running their os any time soon.

BlackBerry as you may know has been relying on their itself for the mobile platforms that run its devices until recently when they introduced their first Android device.

BlackBerry 10 OS is based on QNX, the Unix-based OS developed by its own subsidiary which makes blackberry phones unique.

Well, it might have been OK to have an island of your own but users feel isolated when more and more apps popped up on Android and iOS, sometimes even on Windows Phone, but not on BB10.

This is likely to be one of the reasons blackberry ventured into the production of blackberry priv that was running Android.

A lot of people actually speculated that the coming of Android to blackberry devices will affect the BlackBerry OS but Chen’s reassurance then, that they’re still committed to the OS cleared their doubt.

Chen’s statement however, seems to have served it’s temporary purpose because he has essentially confirmed the end of BlackBerry OS while speaking at CES 2016, Chen confirmed that the company would release one, maybe two hardware devices in the year 2016, and that both of them would certainly run Android OS.

Just like he said at the launch of blackberry priv, they’ll continue to support BlackBerry OS – BB10, as you might know it – but there aren’t currently any public plans to release any new devices with the operating system any time soon, if ever.
