Lionel Messi reclaimed the FIFA Ballon d'Or award for the world player of the year on Monday from his great rival Cristiano Ronaldo who had walked off with the award for the previous two years.

Speaking after the announcement, she said: 'I've been preparing myself for the past four months. I've always wanted to win this contest.

'I dedicated myself completely. I dieted and did rigorous training.'

The cheeky 'rear of the year' contest reached its climax on November 9 in front of a packed audience and hoard of paparazzi.

Models stormed the runway in an array of glittering two-pieces, jewelled platform heels and heavy eye make-up.

Cacau Oliver, the organiser of the contest said: 'The Miss Bum-Bum competition is to elect Brazil's most beautiful bum.'

Although competitors are happy to push their bodies to the limit to bag the title, runner up in the pageant last year, Andressa Urach, nearly died after procedures to enhance her bottom began to rot.

This year contestants had to prove that they had not undergone surgery nor used chemical products.

Bottoms are a thing of national pride in Brazil.

Some Carnival beauties have even been reported to get their behinds covered by insurance companies.
