I thought we should start a thread on this to share our experiences either in your home, on the highway, in your place of work etc. and see what can be done to avert a repeat of such ugly incidents. Shall I fire the first shot? Here is it.
We were at home one evening and our generator suddenly went off. Sensing that they could be armed robbers, I instructed my children not to open the door. We now reverted to use our inverter to power the house. After a while, I went to the bedroom to pick up something. Behold I heard shouts of Jesus, Jesus! What is amiss? Armed robbers are here, how did they get in? I later learned that my wife asked my son to go bring in the generator and before you could scream Holy Moses, ''move, no noise '' were the instructions and the rest is history. Lesson to be learned. Poor communication gap. The children should have told mummy that daddy instructed otherwise. Please recount your experiences to other NLs.

Was in my sister's room relaxing(thankfully she was away in school) . Suddenly, Mummy screamed, "Jesus", from her and dad's room. I jumped up from the bed to go see what the matter was. Then I stood dead still. What had made me stop? A huge dude with a long riffle just passed by the door(his partner was already in my parent's room. Hence her scream) . He walked by just as I was about getting out. He couldn't see me cos my sister's room was dark but the corridor light was switched on. So I could see him. But him, not me . Having seen that long gun, I quietly retraced my steps back into the room and straight under the bed. My heart pounding heavily. From my hideout, I heard my mum begging dad to,"please give them the money " . Few seconds later, one left but the other strolled into my sister's room where unfortunately I was hiding under the bed. You can only imagine what I must have gone through under that bed. Then he walked out again. They left. The operation was successful. I came out from my hideout, rushed and locked the store door through which they had gained access into the house, then back to my parent's room. They had been locked inside. I unlocked the door to let them out. 300k was taken from my dad,his phone, my mum's phones and jewelleries etc. The police were involved. 2 months later my dad was called to the station. 5 boys were arrested. 1 confessed to being a part of the gang that robbed us. Further investigations revealed that one of the boys living with us then, left the gate and store door open for them, before coming into the house. No wonder he left 2 weeks after the robbery. Of course he was later arrested.

I normally put a cutlass under my bed when sleeping. So anythn gets wrong.

Pray you do not encounter them. One of my friends always kept a 12 round pump action gun at the head side of his bed. However, one day, he was taken unawares and as I type this the weapon is gone plus about 300k, 4 laptops, phones, jewelries etc. It was a clean sweep. Security lies with God, my brother.

Mine was in 2007,then came in around 2am, i was chatting with my phone,d lite was still on,immediately dey entered,nepa took lite,they robbed us took mumsy money and new phone and proceeded to other apartments,found out someone left d gate opened...up till nw we dnt know who did,e pain me gaaaan and i haven't gotten over it,every jan 9,am always scared thinking dey r coming bk

This one happened in 2004 , we were parking from our house to another location. It was early in the morning exactly 6:15am. My dad and bro were at the sitting room while I was fooling around .. then suddenly the front door opens and this two guys , the guy in the front pointing a revolver at me, I was dead still, raised my two hands up, laid on the floor without anyone giving me instructions. Like two seconds later I had my dad screaming in Igbo(Thief!!! Thief!!!) In my mind all I was saying is let this man keep quiet does he want us all dead. They went to his room , ransacked it , came back and asked him for his money and where he kept it. My dad was acting dumb then one of the guys pointed a gun at his head by this time I was saying my last prayers and I was flat on the ground, could see what was happening by my side that's where my dad was. Cut the long story short. They left with #315k and my Nike kicks.

Second one (2002)was when I went to a shop to buy Omo and there was a robbery in progress. They told all of us to enter , robbed the woman. Then they left and guess what the owner of the shop was screaming ole ole Ile. Two Shots and everyone was lying down on the tarred road. Where was I? Obviously bidding in the shop behind nicely stacked bags of rice. .

What about encounters in the highways, the one they call ''highway robbery''. In 1990, we were travelling in one of the big buses in the Bendel line fleet along the Igarra-Auchi road when the guys struck. They overtook us in one VW Amazon, pointed one AK 47 to the driver and forced him to stop. We were all robbed after asking everyone to lie down on wet grass.

On our way home, I missed my turning and in the process of reversing back, some boys came out from the dark around underbridge at Ajao Estate and pointed a locally made pistol at me. My instinct took the better part of me and within a twinkling of an eye, I put the gear back to drive, swerve towards the guy holding the pistol and sped off in a ziz zag driving mode not minding where I was heading to. They attempted shooting at us but none hit the car. Thank God we escaped from their siege.

Please note, dont try this stunt with an automatic rifle oooooo. I only did that because it was a locally made pistol.

Congrats for that but learn from op. The wife gave a counter directive to the children who did not tell her what their father had earlier told them.
