“Child maltreatment referred to child abuse and neglect, it includes all forms of physical and emotional ill treatment, sexual abuse, neglect, and exploitation that results in actual or potential harm to the child’s health, development or dignity” (World Health Organization). Research shows that about one in every hundred Americans is identified by state agencies as having been abused or neglected. More than 1,500 children die as a result of this maltreatment. The studies also identified parents as the major cause of the damage inflicted on the children (Barth and Haskins, 2009). In Nigeria, there is lack of proper and adequate reporting system on child maltreatment. However, Nicola et al (2012), reveals that approximately 15 million Nigerian children engaged in either formal or semi-formal jobs in different sectors of the economy. The effort to overcome the economic hardship has pushed many children into dangerous and harmful menial jobs, as a result, made them fall victims of violence, accidents, sexual exploitation e. t. c.
