Germany, the third largest economy in the world and largest in Europe is a country that has some of the best renowned researchers in history like Max Planck, Alexander von Humboldt and Albert Einstein.

Germany is also a very popular destination among many students from other countries of the European Union as well as from countries outside Europe to pursue various academic activities.In 2009, over 250,000 international students decided to enroll for various programs in Germany which is more than 10% of the student population in Germany higher education institutions.

COST OF STUDYING IN GERMANY

Due to a judgement of the Federal Constitutional Court, students are charged tuition and registration fees in colleges and universities in Germany since 2005. Despite this, there are several federal states where universities do not charge tuition fees. Normally, tuition fees are about 500 Euros every semester while registration fees are about 50 Euros every semester.

COST OF LIVING IN GERMANY

Cost of living in Germany is quite affordable when compared to other countries in Europe. An individual will need about 800 Euros a month to cover living costs with rent being the largest expense. Below is a breakdown of living costs, they include:

Feeding and drinks – 165 Euros

Accommodation – 298 Euros

Public transportation and car- 82 Euros

Clothing – 52 Euros

Materials for learning – 30 Euros

Sports, recreation and culture – 68 Euros

Medical cost&health insurance – 66 Euros

Internet, TV & telephone – 33 Euros

Total – 794 Euros

STUDYING AND WORKING IN GERMANY

A great aspect of studying in Germany is that you can work and study at the same time. You can get a job in your university like working in the library or any other department. You can also get a job in a café waiting tables, work as a delivery or courier personal or do other odd jobs like babysitting, cleaning and more. You have a higher chance of getting a job if you speak German.
