Gone are those days when the world thought that women could not fit into certain professions. For many years, men occupied several professional and vocational fields; hence women were confined to the home, to the kitchen and kids.

Times have passed and things have changed. Women now do every job that men do. Women are commercial drivers, women are engineers, women are barbers, women are active politicians. There is absolutely no career that a man finds himself in, that a woman cannot effectively work at. But it is unfortunate that many women still delude themselves with myopic thoughts that, it is the men's world; hence women have to give them some space.

The time for women to make up their minds to change the world has come. Several women have proved to the world that a woman is not only good at keeping the home. Africa has produced a female president. Nigeria has produced several women in political leadership positions. In academics, female students now come top in many schools. All these have confirmed the assertion that women can actually perform well in any position.

So many women have dreams and aspirations to start something, but they are intimidated by the cultural view that a woman shouldn't aim to be too successful, otherwise she will threaten the man. So many institutions now crumble, due to bad management from men, when there are women who have got the ability to take better decisions in management, if they assume position.

A new year has just begun. This is a fresh opportunity to start a career that will lead you to success. Don't let your gender be your limitation. Don't let anyone discourage you by saying, ''you are a woman, you will fail.'' you can succeed in any career that you choose for yourself, so far you have passion for it. Enough of all your dependence on men; be a woman of virtue!
