You are really missing the point. Regardless of when he bought the car, he has to keep the exchange rate in mind. Lets say you loaned me $3,000 about 2 months ago when that rate is N250/$ and i bought the car to resell.

Now that exchange is N300/$ will u take your money back at the rate of N250 or N300? If i showed up at your door with N750k claiming that rate was lower when i loaned it from you will you take?

You will request your $3,000 back intact and tell me to go and buy you dollars. So how much does the dealer buy today?

Hmmmmm....nice try!!!

But your analogy is only correct in the example you gave....Borrowed Funds

In a situation of buy and sell, you can't say he has to increase his price cos of the new exchange rate.

He isn't owing the shippers, neither is he owing the customs agent. He has successfully completed all "payments" required for him to put it on his lot for sale before the price rise.

So there is no basis for increased price for a vehicle that was procured with the old exchange rate.

I want you to get the point here. Lets say its his business money. HE INVESTED $3,000. When you sell, you have to REPLACE the money back. Otherwise, if you have like $20,000 business capital and you don't pay attention to things like that it will be problematic in the long run.

If you sell at the rate of $$ last 2 months, you will not be able to replace the $3,000 you borrow from the business funds. Do that long enough, all your business capital will evaporate. And people start blaming their in-laws for their woes.

So if he sell at the rate of N250/$ today that will fetch him N750k and he will only be able to replace $2,500 of the money he borrowed form the business funds leaving the funds $500 short. Keep doing that, all the business capital will go away.

If you do business that is naira based, then N1m is N1m you worry a bit less. I hope you now understand

This is the rule of money. Finance 101 which is a fundamental basis for running a successful business.
