TOAST - The pidgin word for wooing a girl. (Source: Naijalingo.com)

It is not the easiest thing being a single man in Nigeria and the problem is not the scarcity of good women. The problem is actually an over population of good women. Nigerian men enjoy a large pool of women to choose from; liberal, conservative, Christian, Moslem, every type of woman exists in Nigeria. The taste of the African woman has evolved over time, most women, especially millennials carry a sense of entitlement as such they have; sometimes unreasonably, high standards for men. This is why where you toast her, is as important as how you toast her. Among the important questions a man must ask when approaching a Nigerian woman with an offer of companionship is where to do it, this article focuses on where NOT to do it even when tempted. Except you receive a green light from her; and those are rare these days, do not toast a Nigerian woman in any of these places.
On a queue. If you ever end up in a queue somewhere, the bus stop, bank, airport, embassy or job interview, odds are you are there on serious business. If the conversation is not related to the reason why you are both on the queue, do not do it!
In public transport. As stated earlier, Nigerian women especially millennials have high standards with men. It is not an entirely wise decision but most women tend to be more attracted to successful men. If she’s a public transport user, she wants a partner who owns a vehicle or can at least afford the occasional ‘drop’. This is not to say you cannot strike up a conversation with a woman in the bus, just keep it strictly platonic and look out for the green light. Nigerian women love platonic.
At her workplace. Women are attracted to men with self-control and discipline. Trying to court a woman at her workplace suggests lack of self-control and is a major deal breaker. Not all women enjoy mixing business with pleasure.
On social media. This is a tough one, you can make friends with her on social media but you can’t ask her out via social media, to be plain, it makes a man look immature to a woman. A typical Nigerian woman has multiple toasters to respond to either on Whatsapp, BBM, Facebook or Instagram. This means they tend to generalize all the men they meet on social media. Nigerian women enjoy long duration calls from their male suitors, not only does it help them feel closer to them, it also shows that they care, airtime is expensive. Although phone calls no matter how frequent cannot guarantee you a place in her heart, it guarantees you a place in her top ten; every Nigerian woman has a comprehensive countdown of her dream partner.
