Developing custom themes and templates of your own is actually how you set yourself apart as a true web designer and developer and that's the no.1 skill top web design firms are looking for.

You typically know if a site has been developed with wordpress by adding a /wp-admin at the end of the URL(if it's not blocked) e.g www.example.com/wp-admin
