George Stinney Jr 14 has been exonerated from a conviction that made him the youngest person to be executed in the USA in the 20th century.

The 14-year- old was accused of killing two white girls, and was convicted in a one day trial and also executed three months later without appeal in 1944.

It has been made public that there was no physical evidence linking Stinney to the murder. Circuit Judge, Carmen Mullen discharged Stinney on Wednesday, 70 years after his death. She said the South Carolina state had committed a great injustice and also revealing that the speed Stinney was convicted and executed was shocking and unfair.

The murdered girls were found in Alcolu, Clarendon County which is about 45 minutes southeast of Columbia , with their head wounded with an iron. Investigators accused Stinney , linking him to witnesses who saw him as the girls picked flowers, adding he confessed later.

Stinney's supporters and surviving siblings however, argue the lad was small and frail and was so scared of his life that he could say anything to make investigators happy.

Also Stinney was so tiny the execution chair straps didn't fit him and that his legs were too small for the electrode.

The case of Stinney has long been used as an example of how black people were "railroaded" by the faulty justice system of Jim Crow era (note Investigators , prosecutors and juries were all whites).
