First and foremost, things will get better. You guys must have patience in our fantastic leader Buhari.

Dear younger brother MuhdG, I would go with Controls engineering over Power Engineering. However, both are good to specialise in.

We are in a world where things are becoming more and more digitalised and tech-oriented world on a daily basis. Thus, I would say Controls is definitely the way to go. Keep up the great work MuhdG. I'm proud of all young Nigerians taking the time to study and practise Engineering.

You think so.
Do you think all your controls will work without energy. No matter how digitized or tech-oriented the world will be, power isn't negotiable.
So I guess Power Engineering is as important as the Controls.

both points raised are on point..

but in my opinion power system is preferable in nigeria to control, because i think we are not in the stage yet where control engineers use will be maximised.. but who knows, maybe in the next four or five years things will change and control engineers will have a large portion.

as happy said earlier where is the control without power??

You need to plan for the future and not for the now. We are moving into a time where things are becoming more technologically advanced. Whilst I do agree that Power System is important to learn (I think you should get some knowledge of it), you have to remember that things could rapidly change by the time you are 40. Then you will be telling yourself "Wow, I should have really studied Controls when I was in Uni."

Think about the history classes you were thought or heard off. If I had to sum up history in one sentence it would be: “Life gets better—not for everyone all the time, but for most people most of the time.” And the reason is ENERGY. For thousands of years, people burned wood for fuel. Their lives were, by and large, short and hard. But when humans started using coal in the 1800s, life started getting better a lot faster. Pretty soon we had lights, refrigerators, skyscrapers, elevators, air conditioning, cars, planes, and all the other things that make up modern life. Is Energy, yeah Energy that made all these possible.

Nigeria is Nigeria today because of that thing called Energy, If only we have steady and reliable Power System you know what will happen.

Just imagine, for a minute, life without energy.
You don’t have a way to run a laptop, mobile phone, TV, or video games. You don’t have lights, heat, air conditioning, or even be on Nairaland reading this comment. But, here in Nigeria I don’t need to imagine. That’s what life is like for us every day. But Just Imagine this....A Life with constant Energy.

Control will have it's place sure!! but Power/Energy will always be the determinate. You control nothing when their is no power, I guess I say this because am in both sector.
