Is It Legal For Military Men To Refuse To Pay Bus Fares? by bibijay123(f): 1:29pm On Feb 22, 2016 |
Why is it that Military men claim "staff" and don't pay tfares? I have witnessed this on several occasions, policemen, mopol,op mensah, Naval officers and other uniform men and women in lagos state don't pay their fare when they board a public transport. One day a soldier beat up a young conductor for daring to ask him for fare, he kept blabbing about fighting in the world war,and how he has loyally served his country Nigeria. This morning three mopol men boarded the bus I was in and claimed " staffed" meaning they won't pay. The driver explained that he can't allow all three of them and that one of them should pay but they refuse and everyone in the bus kept quiet. Is this legal? Is this right? 1 Like |

As someone who being in the military setting and knows a little about it 1. If there are more than one military personnel in the bus, only one won't pay, the others would pay 2. It's the first to enter the bus that would be exempted from paying. 3. Is it legal....I wouldn't know...but it's very logical 4. All military men have enough to pay their fare, so u not really doing them any favour. It's rather the other way round. If you encounter challenges along the way you will know what I'm talking about. 5. If it's a very long journey that costs thousands of Naira, most military men that are logical will pay. Hope this helps. 7 Likes 1 Share |

yourstruly5: If they have enough to pay their fares why do they refuse to so? Why will they enter someone s boss and even threathen to beat him up for daring to demand fare frm them? It isn't logical to me o |

That BS only happens in Lagos (and maybe some other places in the SW) but it in the SE they'll ask you: yes you be soldier; so who you help? Soldiers and police don't even wear their uniform in public tranport let alone claiming to be "staff" 1 Like |

bibijay123:I totally agree with you. But think of it, helping a man in uniform on a #50, #100 trip is not a bad idea. 2. Many of them flare up maybe due to the manner of approach by the person collecting the fare. Show some respect, after all, respect is reciprocal. 3. There'll always be bad eggs in any organization or setting. I used to have friends those days who will go out purposely with their uniforms, even though they've money but they'll refuse to pay and they'll be prepared to deal with anyone who asks them for money..Funny, isn't it? But that's some people's lifestyle. 4. I also know of some men in uniform who will never harass anybody with their uniforms/ position...Different strokes for different folks. 2 Likes |
