Class Action Suit Against Gtbank For Misleading 199/$ Card Charges by bdavis: 1:48pm On Feb 29, 2016
Over the course of the weekend, it was noticed that for whatever reason, albeit yet unknown and undisclosed GTBANK decided to charge @ 199 naira per dollar exchange rate for online international transactions, and said funds were put on hold in various accounts of those who transacted business at the time.

However, without any form of warning, notice or alert to customers GTBANK on Monday 29th of February, being today, decided to upgrade all those 199/$ transactions to 299/$ and debited , as such, leaving a lot of accoun in negative, and those that are not in negative, had monies deducted beyond their expectations and beyond the initial transaction notice.

I am calling on all those affected to sign up here and let's institute a class action suit against GTBANK for such unscrupulous and frivolous practices.

Do I really need to do this? The answer is No, I could easily send an email to GTBANK, and cc the CBN consumer protection department and the get my negative balance of 16k+ reversed, but I am tired and fed up with the careless and nonchalant attitude of Nigerian banks towards their customers who keep them in business. They hit us with all sorts of frivolous charges and we take it lying low and it's business a usual.

It's high time a stop is put to such nonsense! Please join me and let's tell them we won't take it no more. We keep them in business, we deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, if nothing else.

Online class action, you think this is America? Whichever way there is very little you guys can do without losing more money. You can actually sue and while the court case lasts, I can assure you all you will spend more on legal charges. How about creating negative publicity? You will also find yourselves spending more money.

Just go and cancel all orders made.

I'm signing for my self with two hands and two legs. I don't mind suing this guys till CBN is forced to reveal those who are behind the racketeering game. If you need screenshot I get them as proof.

I'm not even looking at this as a 'money making venture' I am just tired of the exploitation by Nigerian banks...thing like things won't happen in UK, American or as my brother is fond of saying, 'even in Bangladesh' cheesy

Hoping the mods would move this to the front page and we'll get enough traffic to get things moving. If it comes to the issue of legal fees, even if there is no bro Bono offers, GTBANK can be made to pay our legal fees, if nothing else.

If this were any other country but our beloved Nigeria, even if the charges are going to be reviewed, the bank would notify affected customers and even plead with you and then offer you some sort of compensation or reward program and if you do refuse, case closed. They'll bear the losses.

Please believe me, even frontpage won't get much done. I have been through all of this before. It will only result in more frustration but if you say it's not about money and you have money to blow then sue Gtbank hq. Before suing, write a letter seeking redress, it will cost between N20-100k to have a lawyer do that for you depending on the lawyer. If the bank does not respond, another letter is sent. If no response then you ask your lawyer to file a suit. All these things I just mentioned will set you back at least N50k.
