~Strange As It Is To Me,I've Often Wondered If People Knocking On Their Neighbours Doors To "Borrow" Food Is Really "Normal" If You Like And No Biggie!

~I've Run Out Of The Odd Sugar/Milk/Salt But I'd Rather Go With Out,Immediately Make A Reminder Stick-It-Note And Put It On The Refrigerator Than Go Round To My Neighbour!

~Dunno Why I Find The Thought Of Doing So Really Embarassing . . . I Once Had A Neighbour Come Over Mine To "Borrow" Milk! I Suppose What Made It More Strange Was The Fact He wasnt One Of The Neighbours Am Friendly With,So Seeing Him Standing At My Door With "Hello Im Your Neighbour. . I Was Wondering If I Could Borrow Some Milk If You Have Any?" Left Me More Embarassed For Him & Gave Him The Whole Bottle Of Milk And Wud Hear Nothing Of Him  " Returning" The Milk!  grin

I'd rather starve than borrow food from my neighbor. Haven't reached that level of trust.

Re: ~ Ever " Borrowed " Food From Your Neighbour? ~ by SeanT21(f): 11:25pm On Jul 17, 2009
Of-course. Back in Liberia, I borrowed plenty. My neighbors and my family were very close. We borrowed from eachother all the time. Things like oil, salt, sugar, water, etc. The reason borrowing is common amongst Liberians is b/c when the war came most of the markets were destroyed. The good markets were usually an hour away. Why waste your time jumping from Taxi to Taxi to buy butter when your neighbor is willing to give it 2 U 4 free. My advice is to borrow from someone U trust cause witchcraft plenty in Liberia oo.

I don't borrow in yakeeee cause the supermarkets are close enough

In Nigeria, my cousins and I used to climb our neighbor's trees to "borrow" their fruits, esp orange, mangoes and agbalumo tongue tongue tongue

It all depends on the kind of relationship U have with ur neighbor. My neighbors and I were very close so it was no biggie.

~ cheesy That was Funny!

~I've had several discussion about "Food Borrowing" w/ some people since i started this thread! I've learnt Back Home it is actually common practice among very good neighbours!! Prolly will be considered "begging" w/ not so close/good neighbours grin

~The word "Borrow" in this context can be perceived as "Begging" but my understanding is people actually dont find anything wrong w/ asking the neighbour to bits & bobs in cases where they dont have/run out. . .

~IN the "Code" of Borrowing, there's no such thing as "Returning" what you borrow, prolly the borrowee will ask the borrower for something else next time round. . .

Do your husband knows that the food he is eating was borrowed too?
And when your husband is carrying big belle around the compound, Mama Chukwu, will be laffing that, your husband is growing bigger on her borrowed food to you.
