Oculus founder Palmer Luckey has poured water on the idea of his Rift virtual reality headset supporting the Mac by saying that Apple doesn't make any computers powerful enough to run it.

"That is up to Apple and if they ever release a good computer we will do it," Luckey tells ShackNews when asked about Mac support. "It just boils down to the fact that Apple doesn’t prioritize high-end GPUs. You can buy a $6,000 Mac Pro with the top of the line AMD FirePro D700, and it still doesn’t match our recommended spec.""THERE’S JUST NOT A SINGLE MACHINE OUT THERE THAT SUPPORTS IT."

Apple's high-end Mac Pro computers come with dual discrete GPUs, but they're designed for professional applications rather than gaming. Advanced VR headsets like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive require a gaming-focused graphics processor as capable as an Nvidia GTX 970 or above to meet the manufacturers' recommendations.

"If they prioritize higher-end GPUs like they used to for a while back in the day, we’d love to support Mac," Luckey continued. "But right now, there’s just not a single machine out there that supports it. So even if we can support it on the software side, there's just no audience of people that can run the vast majority of software out there."

Apple CEO Tim Cook has expressed an interest in VR, saying on the company's most recent earnings call that "I don't think it's a niche. It's really cool and has some interesting applications." For the foreseeable future, though, Apple's Mac platform won't be able to play host to the most advanced implementations.

What do you think about this, it seems funny to me.

Actually it is not funny. U know apple very well, they won't venture into vr unless they are certain there's a huge market for it. As it is right now vr is nice but how Many people do u think are willing to wear that thing apart from the geeks? I bought the Google cardboard and then Samsung gear vr, for the first week I couldn't do without them, but after about a week my gear vr is where I kept it collecting dust, I've not used it for about 2 months now.

Trust me Apple will do the needful when vr becomes the real thing and not just the geeky thing. Just like they came late to the smartwatch market they will eventually come to the vr market but only when they are certain of huge success. Just look at the pictures below, how many people do u think WILL actually wear this?

LOL, now u know why apple will not venture into vr just yet. Actually that's what u wear in ur face to put u into a virtual reality world. The head gear controls ur head tracking, u move ur head in the direction the game wants u.And those things on the hand are motion sensors like controllers, u move ur hands to interact with the games u are playing. Trust me if u ever see anyone using a vr u will think he is a mad man.

and when they start making it they will lie to their zombie customers that they invented it

And as per the apple watch; it's the saddest attempt at a smart watch. To be very honest, it's one of the worst smart watches in the market

but the problem is that the most powerful mac GPU isn't powerful enough for the oculus Rift. So geeks using a mac wouldn't be able to use it.
