Lekki Gardens Releases Statement On Collapse Building that killed 18 in Lagos by olillywales(m): 3:40pm On Mar 09, 2016 |
Read the press statement below... The Management of Lekki Gardens has confirmed the unfortunate incident, Tuesday March 8th 2016 where a building collapsed at about 4a.m. in the morning, at one of its residential estate projects in Lekki. The building which was under construction was meant to house a number of apartment units. Rescue work started immediately and so far 18 people have been reported dead and others injured. The exact cause of the incident is not known at this time. All of our incident response procedures have been initiated, our support services have been mobilized and relevant authorities have been advised. As regards the said building, investigations are being carried out to ascertain the cause of the collapse. In line with our usual safety standards, all sites are closed off by 6pm daily and it is mandatory that every worker leaves at that time. The company is cooperating with the National Emergency Management Agency, Lagos State Government, Fire Service and Lagos State Police to speed up rescue efforts. Investigation is already underway to ascertain the identities of those affected as it is not company policy for site workers to take shelter in uncompleted buildings. Lekki Gardens is a reputable residential property development company and has successfully completed and delivered over 6,000 units of houses across Lagos, Ogun, Rivers State and the Federal Capital territory, Abuja in the past 4 years and most of them already occupied. The Management and staff of Lekki Gardens sincerely sympathize with the families of those who lost their lives. The company will do all in its power to ensure that those injured are fully supported. Signed Management, Lekki Gardens http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/lekki-gardens-releases-statement-on.html 1 Like 2 Shares

it is not enough to release statement, heads must roll over this. there have been so many cases of collapsed building throughout the country that are in court yet none has been pursued to logical conclusion. The building code has been in the national assembly since 2006 but they wont pass it because NIOB won't grease their palms. this madness must stop. building construction is a profession that should only be carried out by competent and registered professionals. RIP to the deceased 13 Likes 2 Shares |

How can you say the exact cause of the collapse building is not yet known? Do you want a sayer to tell you the foundation and structures were faulty from the beginning? The structure was even marked for demolition. 8 Likes |

This is one of the cons of having private investors run a sector in the economy. They are all after their pocket, no regard for the welfare of the people. See phcn, from about 15 naira per kilowatt, today its 22naira per kilowatt & counting, yet no Improvement in power supply. About 50% Tariff Increase #Privatization can either make or break the society. #lekki garden developers kwantinue. No wonder financial experts say "THE MARKET TODAY IS RUN BY EMOTIONS & GREED AND NOT LOGIC" |

Lekki Gardens.. The worst investment I ever made. I am glad I pulled out without taking too much loss. Those houses are very very poorly built. Once you walk into the estate and take a critical look at the structures, you will see why they are selling them so cheaply (technically speaking). The Estate managers are more interested in selling units and taking estate management fees than they are on the building quality. Imagine that building was fully occupied when it collapsed? The disaster would not be this nonsense they are saying. I hope Lagos State Government can use this as grounds to investigate all Lekki Gardens buildings especially the Condos 5 Likes 1 Share |
