Is this a perfect birthday gift? Am guessing it is. Nigerian Professional Football League’s all-time top goal scorer Mfon Udoh got one on Sunday, March 13. The striker who scored a record breaking 23 league goals in the 2013/2014 NPFL season, netted a brace as Enyimba crushed visiting Vital’O of Burundi 5 – 1 in a first round CAF champions league clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka stadium.

Mfon Udoh’s brace against Vital’O takes his tally to four goals in the Champions League. His two goals had helped Enyimba qualify for the first round in a 2-1 aggregate win over Vipers SC of Uganda. Enyimba had struggled all season but it was a different ball game on Sunday, March 13, as they scored three goals in the first half before adding two more in the second half. Stephen Chukwude scored the first goal in the 21st minute before Mfon Udoh doubled Enyimba’s lead three minutes later. Chukwude scored his second goal of the day in the 38th minute to give Enyimba three-goal lead in the first half.

In the second half Udoh also completed his brace just before the hour-mark, while Vital’O pulled one back from the boot of Hussein Shaban. However, Leonard Ugochukwu ensured that Enyimba have a four-goal advantage with his 85th minute strike. Speaking to Naij.com sports shortly after the game, Enyimba’s hitman Mfon Udoh expressed his delight over his team’s big win against their counterpart. According to Udoh, he couldn’t have wished for a better birthday gift other than a very impressive first leg win, which puts his team in the pole position to qualify to the second round. Udoh clocks 24 today, March 14.
