All the labour unions operating in Imo State University,
IMSU, Owerri, have ordered their members to commence
immediate and indefinite industrial action, to press home
their demand for payment of their unpaid salaries and
allowances.

Strong feelers emanating from Imo State Polytechnic,
IMOPOLY, Umuagwo, revealed that the workers are equally
spoiling for war over their unpaid salaries since 2016.
IMSU workers, who spoke to Vanguard on Tuesday,
confirmed that no staff of the institution have been paid a
dime in the past three months.

When journalists contacted the university’s Public Relations
Officer, PRO, Nze Ralph Njoku Obi, he confirmed the
development but denied that varying levies and fees have
surreptitiously been reintroduced into the institution.
Meanwhile, the IMOPOLY branch of the Academic Staff
Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, have served notice of an
impending industrial action to the school’s management.

The resolution to this effect was unanimously taken during
an emergency general meeting held last Monday, in the
school.

They not only rejected the 30 percent cut in their salary but
also urged the state government and school management to
live up to their statutory obligations to workers.

The workers equally insisted that “all arrears of migration
and promotions must be paid without further delay”,
stressing that “failure to do so before April 6, 2016, the
Union will no longer guarantee industrial harmony in the institution
