U-20 WWCQ: Falconets Claim First Leg Win In South Africa

Nigeria’s U-20 women’s team, the Falconets, gave their qualification for this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in France a huge boost following their 2-0 away win against South Africa in the first-leg qualifying play-off in Polokwane on Saturday.

The 2018 U-20 Women’s World Cup will run from August 5 to August 24 in France.
First-half goals from Rasheedat Ajibade and Anam Imo bagged the impressive first leg win for the Nigerian girls.

After dominating in the early part of the first half, the Falconets deservedly took the lead in the 30th minute through Ajibade whose clever effort went past the South African keeper.

In the 35th minute, the Falconets doubled their lead thanks to Imo.
Imo almost got on the score sheet again in the 55th minute but her shot came off the cross bar.

The return leg comes up January 26, 2018 with the winners on aggregate picking one of Africa’s two tickets for the U-20 Women’s World Cup.

The other first leg play-off tie between Cameroon and Ghana is billed for Sunday, January 14 in Yaoundé.

Olanrewaju Yet To Return To Girona After Christmas Break, Misses Las Palmas Clash

Nigerian striker, Kayode Olanrewaju, is yet to return to his LaLiga Santander side Girona after the Christmas break, and will miss club’s League clash with Las Palmas in Montilivi today (Saturday) as he Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN) reports.

The game is the second straight game the 24 year old Nigerian forward will be missing after he failed to report back to the club from the Christmas break.

He was also not in the matchday squad for Girona, in their 4-2 away defeat to Valencia at the Mestalla stadium last week.

According to a report on Spanish daily, L’Esportiu, the former Austria Wein striker has his head turned on after receiving offers from several teams during the January transfer window and he is also concerned about his chances of making Nigeria’s Russia 2018 World Cup Squad.

But Girona are not willing to allow the striker leave until the end of the season despite, the Nigerian failing to score a goal in 12 LaLiga Santander games because they believe he is still capable of regaining his scoring form for Pablo Machin’s team.

Olanrewaju has three international caps for the Super Eagles of Nigeria since he made his debut against South Africa in an African Nations Cup qualifier in June last year.

Girona are 13th in the Spanish La Liga Santander table with 23 points from 18 games played so far.

Samuel Chukwueze (2015 under 17) had an outstanding game for Villareal under 19 vs Toledo under 19..

Played a part in 3 goals, one assist, was fouled for a penalty and was part of the build-up for another.

He was very versatile, played on both wings and in the number 10 role.

I see you trying to create an excuse for permanently injured players, I'm not an advocate for any player o, but if any of our players need to be dropped you need to mention a worthy replacement. Aluko 2 goals and 3 assist? in the second tier of English football even Ajagun has better stats, and people will not let us hear word because of him. mtcheew

Isaac and Bazee are not permanently injured players. Once they are fit they will play.

Rohr said he doesn't want to take unfit average players to the WC. Therefore, Sone Aluko can easily and perfectly replace Iheanacho who is in a worst condition.

Playing in the championship is better than sitting on the bench with a middle table club.

Wilfred Ndidi vs Chelsea:

56 passes
82 touches - 2nd to only Azpilicueta
86% pass completion
5 tackles - most on the pitch
4 interceptions - most on the pitch
2 dribbles
@WhoScored rating: 7.9/10 - 2nd to Leicester goalkeeper.

This is the first time I see him average 80+% pass completion. Massive improvement.

But, Ndidi will easily find his way around the formation because it is a defensive set-up. Ndidi plays as a defensive midfielder. However the forward players are the ones who are finding it hard in the set-up.

Ndidi's challenge is when it comes to forward play. Shakespeare's system inhibits the creative side of Ndidi.

This is an example. I could see Ndidi could offer more to the team and knew the system was holding him back. Not just Ndidi but the team. Mahrez was also explosive yesterday. So was Okazaki.

If not the red card, Ben Chilwell was also brilliant. Chilwell and Amartey owned the flanks and made it difficult for V. Moses and Mark Alonso to impose themselves on the flanks.

Ndidi Rated Highly In Leicester Draw Vs Chelsea

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi earned a very good rating for his sterling performance when 10-man Leicester City held Chelsea to 0-0 draw in a Premier League clash at the Stamford Bridge.

An appraisal of each Leicester City player’s performance was done by British regional newspaper for the city of Leicester, Leicester Mercury.

According to Leicester Mercury, each Leicester player’s performance was rated out of 10. Ndidi secured eight points for his impressive display in the midfield.
Another player who was rated eight was Harry Maguire who marshalled Leicester’s defence brilliantly.

Assessing Ndidi’s performance, Leicester Mercury wrote: “The best midfielder on the pitch. Combative, but also his distribution was very good.”

And in the other ratings, Kasper Schmeichel, Daniel Amartey, Matty James, Riyad Mahrez, Shinji Okazaki, Marc Albrighton and Jamie Vardy got seven points apiece.

Aleksandar Dragovic got six for his efforts, while Ben Chilwell who was sent off, was rated lowest on five points.

Musa Features In Leicester U-23s Draw Vs West Ham

Super Eagles forward Ahmed Musa was in action for Leicester City U-23s who held West Ham United to a 0-0 away draw in the Premier League 2 on Friday night, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Musa who is yet to feature for Leicester in the Premier League this season and has been linked with a January exit, played the full 90 minutes and went close early in the second half only to see his drive saved at the front post by West Ham keeper.

Also in action for Leicester was long-term injury absentee Robert Huth and new signing Adrien Silva, who was however replaced just over an hour into the game.

The draw against West Ham means Leicester U-23s are now unbeaten in 19 straight league games.

They maintain second position on 29 points, just one point behind leaders Liverpool U-23s.

ROAD TO RUSSIA: Is England Friendly Ideal For Super Eagles?

The Nigeria Football Federation and England’s Football Association on Wednesday confirmed that there will be a friendly between the Super Eagles and the Three Lions in London on 2 June.

Both teams will be looking to use the Wembley match as preparation towards the Russia 2018 World Cup which starts few days after the game.

While everybody agrees that this is a high-profile friendly for the Super Eagles given the calibre of opponent and the venue, eye brows have been raised in some quarters regarding the usefulness of the match.

Those against the friendly argue that the Super Eagles need to play countries with styles similar to Russia 2018 group phase opponents Argentina, Croatia and Iceland to give the Nigerian side a sense of what they will come up against at the World Cup.

England do not play like any of these teams, but those in support of the friendly believe the Super Eagles will benefit from playing against a grade A side with top players who will give the Nigerians a tough physical battle just days before the World Cup.

Which side are you on? Is the England friendly ideal for the Super Eagles or not? Why do you hold this view?

Iceland that played Indonesia in a friendly, which team in Group D plays similar football to Indonesia? undecided

Not all friendlies should be geared towards playing teams similar to those in youe group- except you plan to crash out in the group stage

The World Cup is a 32-team tournament and we should prepare for it as if we will get to the finals, we should not limit our friendlies to teams that play similarly to our group opponents, lest you become clueless when you play a team that is not similar to those opponents

Ebuehi Demands Pay Rise To Extend ADO Den Haag Stay

Nigeria defender, Tyronne Ebuehi, is keen to extend his stay at Dutch outfit ADO Den Haag, but insists the club must show desire to keep him by offering him what he rightly deserves, reports Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN).

Ebuehi who has been capped twice by Nigeria is in the final six months of his contract at the club, and both parties are in talks over a new deal.

The right-back has also been linked with a move to English championship club Norwich City and Portuguese outfit Benfica.

”I do not think the offer I received is very great. I need the club to appreciate me more,” Ebuehi told Omroepwest.nl at the club’s training base in Belek

“I’m enjoying myself here and I do not want to leave. I still learn every day, am happy with the players and trainers and if I can sign here, I would really like to do that. But I am also just honest. I do not think the offer I received is very good.”

The 21-year-old also debunked speculations he has signed a pre-contract with Norwich City and that he attended the club’s Emirates FA Cup clash against Chelsea last Saturday.

“The most important thing now is the training camp. Of course I see messages on social media, so I cannot say that I do not care about it at all,” Ebuehi stated.

“I think some rumours are pretty funny. Maybe I signed the contract in my sleep.”
Ebuehi further stated that he was not motivated by money as he seek to sort out his future.

“I am not someone who now plays football for money. That is something that comes later. The most important thing for me is my development. I have to be better and I want to achieve the highest possible level,” he admitted.

“At the end of my career, I want to say that I have made the most of it, but as I said before, the rating can be better for someone who has played so many matches. ”

Super Eagles’ World Cup Foes Argentina To face Italy, Spain In Friendlies

Two- time world champions, Argentina, will begin their preparation for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia with two friendly matches in March against Italy and Spain
According to online news outlet, Ole.com.ar Albiceleste will come up against Italy who failed to qualify for the mundial in Basel on March 23, while their encounter against Spain which will take place four days latter is billed for Madrid.

The Argentina Football Federation are also working on the possibility of having the team play a farewell game on May 30 at La Bombonera before heading off to Barcelona for a one- week training camp at the Joan Gamper Sports Centre on the outskirts of the city.

Reports earlier suggested that the friendly affair will be against Bolivia in Buenos Aires.

A training match with Israel as the probable opponent is planned for June 8 before leaving Spain for their Bronnitsy training centre base camp in Russia the next day.

Jorge Sampaoli’s men are drawn in Group D along with Nigeria, Croatia and Iceland.
The South Americans will face the Super Eagles in their third group game on June 26 at the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg.

About the big news, here is a hint; As Rohr has adopted the 3-5-2 as one of his formations, he is looking forward to start integrating the German boys as early as March. Of the three German boys, Akpoguma and of course Uduokhai, I was told are already in the bag and this might be Rohr's backline against Poland.

....................Ekong Balogun Uduokhai

Awaziem and Akpoguma as deputies while Omeruo would be given another chance to know if his showing against Argentina was a fluke. Omeruo doesn't have the technical team's trust unlike before and he would do well to redeem his dampened image with the scrimmages.

Rohr has cooled the interest on Jordan Torunarigha because he hasn't been seeing enough game time and this doesn't seem to end anytime soon as he is his club's third choice left back behind Platenhardt 25 and Maxi 20. Hence isn't better than what we have in Aina, Idowu and Echiejile.

As it stands now, our three lovely right backs might make it to the world cup.

Ebuehi as a wing back cum makeshift left back
Shehu as a full back
Aina as a full back cum makeshift left back.

I find it a bit odd that you think a guy who have grinned out results for Leicester and steered them off relegation dog fight to an upward trajectory of a comfortable 8th position is a bad coach.

You have lead a campaign of calumny against Claude Puel just because he doesn't find Kelechi good enough for his system. Youre even at pains to admit that he has worked on Ndid's weakness (which is ball handling and passing).

It is laughable you will rather credit Shakespeare for Ndidi's improved passing numbers against Chelsea, (a man who have left Leicester City over 4 months and counting )when it is on record that Ndidi 86% pass completion he pulled was a career high.

Hey guys I saw Iorfa play yesterday against Leeds United and my verdict is; this world cup came too early for him but he might come good for us in the nearest future. Hence, I'll enjoin Rohr to start easing him in after the world cup. The deeper the team, the stiffer the competition for places and the better the team and its bench.

I took a boy(my cousin) to Diamond Football Academy Umuahia earlier last week, and I was fortunate to have a breaf conversation with the management. With what I saw of Chukwueze from the few videos I was shown, I marveled at the level of his improvement since moving, that boy might play for the first team before the season ends. Just few months after joining, he is alrdy one of the most important members of La Real's U19 team. He, Jack Ipalibo and Kelechi Nwakali are great ambassadors of DFA. I heard the owner has bought a third division club in Portugal to help expose his players early to European football. Good move

Great news about Onyekuru. Since he wont be needing surgery, I figured he could be out of action maximum, 3 months. Hopefully there won't be setback or reoccurrence during rehab.
I am skeptical about the possibility of the German boys being ready in time for the Poland friendly since the documentation process with FIFA and DFA haven't started. From our experience in the past, this process usually takes us 6-8 months to complete.

Of the three German boys, Akpoguma and of course Uduokhai, I was told are already in the bag and this might be Rohr's backline against Poland.

....................Ekong Balogun Uduokhai
...............Ebuehi Idowu.

I fear for Echiejile, can't remember the last time he played for his club. If Idowu maintains the form he showed against Argentina... Ur guess is as good as mine
na this news you wan share before why you come draw am like draw soup. You wicked o.
Anyway it's appreciated.

With this there is no way we'll be taking 4fullbacks to the world cup. The maximum will be 3 out of possible of 5 (Echiejile, Shehu, Aina, Ebuehi, Idowu). This will be a tough call for Rohr. Not forgetting that V. Moses can play as a WB.

My own be se, let the best be selected and any player given an opportunity in any of the friendlies should grab it with both hands and feet as it's becoming more glaring that NO ONE HAS HOLD CLAIM TO A SLOT YET except for MIKEL OBI.

I dey laugh o

He worked on Ndidi's weakness? Funny. I said the negative system was inhibiting Ndidi. Play Ndidi in a more creative system and he will sparkle. It was clear to see for those who could see. It was not just Ndidi. It was the whole team. There are people who celebrate results from negative tactics. Not me. If Puel had played his dross football yesterday, the results would have been different. Stats less convincing and Ndidi would not sparkle.

You did not see the creative spark in Ndidi. I saw it months ago and even pointed it out. Trying to pin it on improving Ndidi is hilarious because I did not see such spark against Fleetwood. Ndidi in a more creative side will shine like a million stars. Not handling Ndidi.

So when I pointed it out months ago, it was Puel handling Ndidi? Funny.

From our experience in the past, this process usually takes us 6-8 months to complete.
the board might have learn't one or two lessons from their previous dealings and who says the process hasn't began since last year. Don't forget we've been hearing rumours concerning these german boys since mid-last year.

Another thing is that the germans are not like the english when it comes to releasing players. So I don't see them giving us tough time in the switch thereby making it easier and faster.

How the hell did I credit Shakespeare for yesterday's performance in September last year. It seems you have lost direction in the debate. The point is simple, the fire was there but the system was inhibiting Ndidi. It is so logical. I pointed it months ago. Yesterday, Puel decided to lead his team in a brave fashion and Ndidi's creative side showed. Simple.

Keep in mind Southampton sacked Puel because of his negativity. Not results.

Ndidi could perfect Mikel's style of play but it will take time.

He is the Super Eagles Pogba.

Perfect. Same thing I see in Ndidi. He is like Pogba in a lot of ways but his defensive attributes and intelligent positioning makes Ndidi a priceless asset.
