On the back of the recent landmark agricultural agreement with Kebbi State, Lagos State has moved its agricultural alliances outside the country. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who was the Special Guest of the Namibian President, Dr. Hage Geingob, met with various investors in Namibia during an official visit to the country.

The Lagos State delegation went on a visit to MEATCO, the premier livestock processing facility in Southern Africa. According to the Chairman of MEATCO, Dr. Martha Nammundjebo-Tilahun, 90% of their products are exported to Western Europe and Japan. She informed the Lagos State entourage that in Denmark, the company’s products go straight from their facility to shop counters, ready for sale to the end consumers.

The possibility of a collaboration with MEATCO was discussed, whereby the Namibian company will support Lagos State with the technology and know-how of livestock processing to combat the challenges currently faced in this area. After the discussions, the management of MEATCO agreed to visit Lagos State to assess the abattoir facilities at Oko Oba, Agege and partner with the government in building 2 brand new abattoirs.

The Lagos State team also met other investors in the areas of Tourism and Hospitality and held talks on creating parks and resorts from the many open areas in the State. The Governor assured the President that Lagos State will participate in the Namibian Investment Summit to be held in October 2016.
