So graduates collecting 30 k should take to armed robbery too? As far as i'm concerned these are decent wages and if they are not satisfied they are free to open a business on the side just like any other citizen.

Most people get the reasoning upside down. People steal and collect bribes and extort PRIMARILY because they are greedy and not because of meagre salaries.

Senators collect huge pay, why do they steal? Greed. Do you know how much Generals in the army earn, yet some of them stole money for arms purchase. The list goes on and on.

If I am in the police or any employment for that matter, if my pay is too small for me I'll quit. You may ask what will my family eat? Of course we will eat something else! Even in that telecoms firm, if you are sacked, what will you eat? material resources for life do not come only through one channel. But a person who prefers money to a good name won't see other opportunities and he will continue in sharp practices (until EFCC nab am!).

People saying this is low:

- They don't pay for housing in Police quarters

- Some commissioned officers (I don't know the level) have official cars and official mechanic.

With Nigerians spending 40% of income on housing this is not a bad deal.

My concern is the large jump from Commissioner of Police (N300 K) to AIG (N500 K). It's too steep I think.
