Apr 14, Denmark's foreign minister said she will urge US states such as Texas and Ohio to stop using a drug produced by a Danish company in lethal injections. Lene Espersen said she cannot take direct action against the company that produces pentobarbital because the drug is not exported from Denmark. It is produced by a plant in Kansas that is owned by Denmark's Lundbeck A/S. Britain announced it was banning the export of three such drugs to the United States.

Apr 14, Marcella Pattyn (92), the world’s last Beguine, died in Belgium. She was the last woman living in a lay Christian order that dated back some 800 years in Germany and the Low Countries.

Apr 14, California police said two parolees killed at least four women while wearing GPS trackers last fall. Franc Cano (27) and Steven Dean Gordon (45) were charged with four counts of rape and four counts of murder.

Apr 14, A Palestinian woman died after reportedly inhaling tear gas used by Israeli troops at Ayda refugee camp near the West Bank city of Bethlehem, but the military denied any involvement. An Israeli man was killed and his wife and son wounded as they drove through the West Bank en route to a Passover meal.

Apr 14, Romanian poet and translator Nina Cassian (89) died in NYC. She had obtained political asylum in the US after the Communist-era secret police found her critical poems scribbled in a friend's diary.
