The real me cannot deal with the real world

The real world cannot handle the real me

So it’s either I live in the unreal imaginary world and be the real me

Or I live in reality and put on a mask and play the masquerade

But everyone is in search of the truth,

I’m in search of the truth and Reality is a version of the truth

So I put the mask on, woke up to reality and play the masquerade

….

Everybody loves me, people love to see the masquerade.

They play the tune and they love to see the masquerade dance to their tune

But no one wants to dance with the masquerade,

Sometimes dancing in the midst of the crowd could get lonely

It might get to a point, very soon that I just can’t handle the loneliness anymore.

People love me, but not for me.

People love the masquerade, but not me.

So, I assume the people will accept the real me if they got to see

Then I stop dancing and I’m about to take off the mask

I hesitate, conflicted, indecisive…

Should I or should I not?

If I stop dancing for too long, the people may get upset and hate the masquerade

If I stop dancing for too long, being the masquerade could get worse than being me.

So I kept dancing while I weigh these thoughts on my mind…

“…if I never try I’ll never know…”

Still dancing, I began again to take off the mask

But this time with a hopeful smile on my face

I didn’t know what to expect

I mean I expected the worst but I hoped for the best

That was an unfair bet

The mask began to come off, my face began to show

The music stopped

The cheering, the laughing, the clapping…they all seized

The people were quiet

The world was silent

Now the mask is completely off

I held it in both hands

“My expectation was met after all“, I thought as I looked around

Crestfallen, with my head bowed, I began to walk

I began to walk away to another place

A place where the world was not,

Maybe I’ll come back someday with another mask and they’ll accept me and love the masquerade
