There is growing speculation that Manchester United are keenly pursuing PSG forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic as the Old Trafford side seek to bring in a big-name signing this summer, presumably in the hope that such an addition

a) helps to distract the club’s supporters from a recent period of lean form and

b) aids a push to once again challenge for major honours.

Here’s five reasons why Louis van Gaal, or whomever may replace the Dutch manager over the summer, should not bring in the former Ajax, Barcelona, Juventus, AC and Inter Milan man.

Battle of the Egos
Louis van Gaal vs Zlatan Ibrahimovic
You can guarantee that if the Dutch boss
brings in the bombastic forward that within weeks the fireworks would fly. Can you imagine either of these guys backing down….

Impeding young talent
Man United have had a pretty dire season all in all but the efforts of young signing Anthony Martial and the recent breakthrough made by Marcus Rashford are perhaps two positives to take away from the campaign. The addition of
Zlatan Ibrahimovic would simply hold back one,or both, of these sterling talents.

Costly
Though Ibrahimovic is out of contract and won’t cost a penny to sign you can guarantee that the salary Man United would have to offer the experienced marksman would more than likely make him the best paid player in the
English top tier.

Bad timing
There is no denying that Zlatan Ibrahimovic still has a season or two in the tank but there are serious doubts about whether the 34-year-old
can make an impact at Premier League level.

Short-term solution
If there is a feeling that Man United are lacking a cutting edge in the final third then the signing of a player who will turn 35 in October is clearly not a long-term solution and as such a signing of this nature is akin to putting a band
aid on an amputation.

Anything to take back United to the winning rail. We are tired of annoying matches.
