Here is calling on farmers whose farmlands terminates into a river/ stream or shares boundary with a deep River.

Here is an opportunity for you to utilize and maximize this NATURAL RESOURCE by deploying my Raingun to farm ALL- YEAR ROUND!

IMPROVING YOUR FINANCE?

1. Determine what crops are in high demand WITHIN YOUR LOCALTY but is in LOW SUPPLY e.g traditional vegetables, fruits and herbs.

Let me elaborate here; In my community, people demand melon greatly but the suppliers are from the North. It commands some good amount here. I produce it enmasse and carve a niche in the supply market.

Also my people can't do without eating okra leaves; by producing okra on my small and segmented farm, I sell the leaves ONLY in my local market while the fruit is sold in the City market - Abeokuta and Lagos.

2. Determine what crops are in high demand in other towns and Cities but are in very low supply. E.g Mile 12 and Oyigbo Markets demand green pepper greatly but it isn't produced in Lagos as such, then I make efforts at producing it and I smile back home anytime I deliver to the Market.

3. Determine equally crops whose AGRONOMY you understand very well. E.g nursery making, plant spacing, nutrient requirements, water requirements. I take pride in Cucumber and Ewedu seeds greatly but will prefer Maize if I have SOME MORE OPPORTUNITIES

4. PASSION: Ensure that you basically have the passion doing what you doing either as a full time venture or a part-time business. E.g Despite that I reside in the South West; My cropping season starts only in October and ends in May.

5. Be ready to get dirty a bit. In this journey to improve your finances; you MUST be prepared to get your hands dirty.

2. A 3" mud pump/ water pump. Please note at least a 5.5HP water pump will do.

History:

Real farming success come when we utilize the river - land history. E.g depth; flooding history; depth at peak of rain; depth at peak of dry season; comfort zone. I.e that part where you determine how close you can go to the river/stream and site your farm without you playing a gamble with flood. Or simply put; where you determine the times of the year where you can go really really close to the waters.

One raingun only carters comfortably for 2-3acres with less farm hand.

Cutting cost as much as possible

In this period of austerity, it is pertinent for you to cut cost as much as you can. This is to keep your over head cost down.

Labour cost
Farm inputs
Miscellaneous

During the heavy rains, the soil maybe be water logged. I. e not suitable for growing any economy crop. But as you had rightly point, there would have been lots of nutrients washed down and settled on the soil.

Here is catch. As the dry seasons draw near, the water socked soil begins to dry out and you are left with alluvial soils which is rich in humus. Planting on such soil can span between 4 - 6 months in some places. Therefore, planting cucumbits, maize and Leafy traditional veggies depending on what's commonly eaten in your area.

As the rains sets it, you should be winding down your operations and moving upland due to flooding concerns.

The list is endless. The possibilities are varied too. Study your environment and tap the endless advantages.
