After Sergio Aguero scored from a clearly offside position against Newcastle last night, SoccerEcho take a look at the worst refereeing decisions of the season and which teams have been most affected, for better or worse.
Spoiler: this piece is almost entirely subjective and will likely make you really angry and want to abuse the author.
So, in chronological order…
Benteke goal incorrectly given against Bournemouth
Back in August, when Christian Benteke was still a credible Premier League striker, and Brendan Rodgers was Liverpool manager, there was all manner of controversy over the Reds’ winner against Bournemouth.
Philippe Coutinho was interfering with play in the build up to the goal, with his attempt to convert Jordan Henderson’s cross distracting goalkeeper Artur Boruc, before Benteke tapped home.
A change in the offside ruling over the summer meant Coutinho should have been flagged and the goal disallowed.
As it was, the goal was given, and Liverpool won 1-0.
