Apr 22, Cynthia Waxman (11) was raped and killed whiled playing in a field in Moraga, Ca. In 2005 DNA evidence revealed that she had been killed by Charles Jackson, a convict who died at age 64 in Folsom Prison in 2002. Jackson was linked to at least 6 other victims.

Apr 22, A bombing in Paris killed a pregnant woman and injured 63 people. The attack was attributed to Carlos the Jackal, aka Ilich Ramirez Sanchez.

Apr 22, Amy Grossberg, a young woman charged along with her high school sweetheart with murdering their newborn at a Delaware motel, pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Amy Grossberg ended up serving nearly two years of a 2 1/2-year sentence; Brian Peterson served 1 1/2 years of a two-year sentence. Peterson had received a lesser sentence of two years because he'd cooperated with authorities.

Apr 22, Felice Bryant (77), bluegrass song writer, died in Gatlinburg, Tenn. She and her late husband wrote such tunes as "Bye Bye Love" and other Everly Brothers hits and "Rocky Top" (1968).

Apr 22, In North Bend, Washington state, two women were found dead in a house fire. Both were shot to death. Peter Keller (41), who had shared the house with his wife and daughter, was sought as a person of interest. On April 28 after a 22-hour standoff, police blew the top off a mountain bunker near Seattle, only to find Keller dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
