Jose Mourinho has signed a contract with Manchester United to become their next manager with an announcement expected before the end of the season.
The former Chelsea boss has been in the running to take over at Old Trafford since December
but finally signed the contract at the end of last week, according to reports in the Portuguese press.
Manchester United were forced to make their move official after French giants Paris Saint-Germain reportedly signalled their intentions to secure his services
, and although United had hoped to wait until the end of the season to make an announcement, reports suggest the deal is on the brink of being made public.The club didn’t want any distractions ahead of their bid to finish in the places for Champions League qualification as well as FA Cup glory.
But they have been forced to bring it forward after news of Mourinho’s signing the contract leaked out in his native Portugal.
Van Gaal has been under pressure after United were dumped out of the Champions League in the group stages and then failed to impress in the Europa League.
They look like missing out on the Champions League next season after Arsenal and arch-rivals Manchester City moved well clear of them in the Premier League table.
Ronaldo return
The Sunday Express claims Mourinho will be handed full control of transfers and is already working on a list of targets as he looks to bolster a squad that has struggled particularly in front of goal.
That could mean a return for Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, who shares the same agent – Jorge Mendes – as Mourinho.
