One cannot reduce his/her weight by just doing workout rather; one needs to have a proper intake of healthy food and proper diet as well. The Rice Diet is a program specializing in the prevention, treatment and reversal of obesity, hypertension, diabetes and congestive heart failure. The diet consists of fruits, grains, vegetables, beans, and olive oil with small amounts of non-fat dairy and seafood (& lean meats), which is what patients are directed to eat when they return home both for continued weight loss and maintenance. On completion of the program, resources are available for participants to continue with a healthy lifestyle, and to maintain the improved health gained while on the residential program.

You have just need to start the little bit exercise and continue it until you get the results. So be careful and conscious when you chose the dieting pills because it can also be harmful for you entire body.

I agree with kanenn when it comes to physical exercises and in addition to that carbohydrates should take the smallest share of our diet and take water frequently because it will reduce on the amount of food one takes.

Here are some tips for Weight loss

1) Regular use of Honey and lemon juice along with a glass of water in early morning,
2) Go for a walk at least for 30 min, walk as fast as you can,
3) Use always herbal products,
4) take nutritious food like fruits, Fruits juices, fresh vegetables instead of junk food
5 Do yoga regularly

Helps to reduce weight.

Weight loss, in the context of medicine, health or physical fitness, is a reduction of the total body mass, due to a mean loss of fluid, body fat or adipose tissue and or lean mass, namely bone mineral deposits, muscle, tendon and other connective tissue. It can occur unintentionally due to an underlying disease or can arise from a conscious effort to improve an actual or perceived overweight or obese state.

I don't consider that body building is bad over 40. But according to me, in later ages our body starts lacking essential workout that actually requires for body building. So I will suggest you to take preworkout supplements to increase stamina.
