On Thursday, April 28 I came across a poster of a party being organized right in the CBD. A party dubbed The Atheists Party has been organized and shall take place at the Gravity Lounge- overlooking the statue of Dedan Kimathi.

The party will be taking place on Saturday, April 5 from dusk till late into the night. The number provided on the poster belongs to the president of the association, Harrison Mumia. An outspoken atheist who has in times past graced Kenyan televisions to discuss matters beliefs and atheism in Kenya.

Indeed, a quick visit to their website revels what would normally cause an uproar in a religious Kenyan society. The description of the society holds:

“Simply put, atheism means the absence of theistic belief. That’s it. It doesn’t mean anything else. Atheism is not a religion, a philosophy, a worldview, or anything similar. It is not the conviction that there are no gods, ghosts, angels, etc. Rather, it is the absence of a belief that these things are real. Atheism is nothing more than the lack of belief in a god or gods. It is the position that deities do not exist,”

With that in mind, the collective of atheists will congregate at the Nairobi’s CBD for a shindig meant to socialize, discuss and welcome new members into the fold of non-believers.

I hope that they have good security - we all know how stupidly fanatical a lot of religious people are.
