What Is/are The Effects Of Eating Before Taking A Blood Test At The Laboratory by Akunyun(m): 7:05pm On May 01, 2016
Good evening to you my fellow nairalanders, I recently followed a friend to the hospital to carry out some blood tests, While the lab personnel was about taking his blood sample, he asked him if he had eaten, and he answered NO (Which isn't true though). He deliberately lied coz the results were urgently needed and he couldn't wait to come back the following day to take the tests.
So my question now goes to those who are acquainted with how this works out, Why is it necessary that you must go to the lab on an empty stomach if you want to go for a blood test.

It depends on the test anyway, but most times eating hampers with the result of the test.for example fasting blood sugar .

Provided it's not Fasting blood sugar or Cholesterol deres no problem. If it's FBG and he lied, it will lead to elevated Glucose level and it may be mistaken for a case of hyperglycemia or diabetes meanwhile it isn't. He has misguided therapy/ cause of problem but aside glucose and cholesterol there isn't any effect whatsoever
