Nah so I stay my own jeje where I guy dey draw blood na so one other guy come there talk say "This blood donating is good for ur health because it helps remove old blood. I know what am saying, my father was a former asst director of health". I was like WTF!!! dude if u don't know something don't talk so that d world would be a better place (I did not say this out for fear of swollen lips and I hate having a broken head). But seriously, what happens to our old blood cells Bilirubin happens Dead red blood cell can never remain in d general circulation unless u have a medical defect. Bilirubin is produced by a two-stage reaction that occurs in cells of the reticulo- endothelial system, including phagocytes, the Kupffer cells of the liver, and cells in the spleen and bone marrow. Heme is taken up into these cells and acted on by the enzyme heme oxygenase, liberating the chelated iron from the heme structure and releasing an equimolar amount of carbon monoxide, which is excreted via the lungs. The reaction yields a green pigment known as biliverdin. Biliverdin is then acted on by the enzyme biliverdin reductase, again releasing a molecule of carbon monoxide· 1 Like 1 Share |
