Rice naturally absorbs moisture, that's why they start to grow mucus if left in a damp place even when bagged.

Placing the phone completely covered up in rice will have the rice absorbing the moisture/water in the components of the phone.

I've had my old phones drop into water momentarily like the OP's case on 2 occasions & they both survived coz this is what I did immediately afterwards

LOL. This was tested and there was no substantial evidence to uphold it.

But, I have practical experience of it, and it holds true. Science can't be 100% right afterall

Rather, take this phone to a good phone hardware repairer. Explain the problem and request him to SERVICE your phone for you. This is done to trace and mop up moisture that must have crept into sensitive areas.
Be fast about this.

Wetin I wan use dat one do? .... Snapdragon 625, with notch... Completely barking up the wrong tree.... Those two things don't interest me at all... Unless for budgetary reasons, if I'm made ti choose a sd 625 device, I still would avoid the notch and go for Redmi 5 plus. As I dey so, i can't use a notched phone... It's terrible... Make no mistake about this, the notch is a design flaw, not a design spectacle..

Go to AliExpress, and order directly, digitizer and give it to good local engineer to help you out when you get it from abroad.

Is the phone still working? If yes, that's what you need . Just change the screen. You are lucky is even cheap
Less than 2k. You can go with any first 2. But make sure you tell the seller that if it does not work well, you will open a dispute, so he should send good, quality one. grin

In place of rice, silicon gels can be used but then how does one get access to a quantity large enough to cover a smartphone?

Let me chip this about the ussd bank issues. JUST LOCK YOUR SIM(S). Once switched off or changed to another phone, the sim won't be able to work without the pin.
Settings > Additional Settings > Privacy > Sim Card lock

and if you forget your pin nkor?
