Fifa Bans Republic Of Benin by jhasper(m): 11:30am On May 11, 2016
Gianni Infantino, Fifa President
Fifa disclosed this in a statement, adding that
the decision takes immediate effect.
“The Benin Football Association (FBF) was
suspended with immediate effect due to a recent
injunction by a local judicial court which impeded
the holding of the due election,” it read in part.
As a result, Benin may miss their 2017 Africa
Cup of Nations qualifier against Equatorial
Guinea in June.
The decision was arrived at during the inaugural
Fifa Council meeting being held in Mexico.
There would have been a FBF presidential
elections on May 4, but a court ruling prevented
the exercise from holding, however the
suspension will be lifted once a new executive
committee has been installed.
