@malone, Your fellow newbie c++ programmer has questions for you: 1. You say you got the book (C++ How To Program 6th Edition by Paul J. Deitel)for 4200 naira. Brand new or fairly used? 2. Does the content justify the price tag? 3. How do you find the book? 4. Did it come along with a cd-rom? Please answer these my questions ASAP cos i want to purchase the same book. Thanks |

Look for `The Design and Evolution of C++ by Bjarne Stroustrup', there are ebooks that are available, but I'm unsure how easy it would be to acquire a real book, in Lagos. |

I finally bought the book, C++ How to program 6th edition. . . But When i read the book reviews on amazon, i wanted to faint The customer reviews were all BAD!!!!!! . . .And the book decided to teach classes before functions which is bizarre Chei i don mess up! |
Re: C++ Book by Ghenghis(m): 6:15am On Feb 20, 2010 |
thats why its better to start of with sampling e-books(though hard copies are best for beginners) . I have many hard copies, but i only buy a book after i've properly checked out its positive (and negative) reviews on amazon. I have at least 20 IT books (hard copies) but hundreds of e-books. If i don't like an e-book its easier to simply delete it. |

Ghengis, You are very right. I actually started out with "learn to program in c++ by john smiley" which is an e-book, and that helped pave the way for me a lot. If i had jumped straight to hard copy, i for hear am. Please can you send me good c++ e-books(pdf). I will appreciate. Thanks |
Re: C++ Book by iGuru1(m): 9:28pm On Feb 20, 2010 |
@ceekay Are you saying that ebooks are better than hardcover? |
Re: C++ Book by iarm(m): 1:20am On Feb 21, 2010 |
Erm, ebooks/real books -- it doesn't matter. They're documentation and they have the same information, if you find it easier and acquire more from reading off of your computer, then stick to it. Ceekay: Deitel and Deitel are very good authors, and historical figures in programming (C++ and C) -- Most of the people that make reviews on amazon are much like the people giving recommendations on here to learn how to hack, but can't program. If you understand what you've learned from the book, utilize it to create programs. Indeed, it may be daunting, C++ is a big language, with huge semantics. |
