Studying for PHRi exam in Nigeria or any part of the world requires a special type of preparation distinctly different from any other exam. PHRi -The Professional in Human Resources – International was known as HRBP before 2016. If you are preparing for this exam I wouldn’t bore you with the details that you can find on the certification website. I would rather concentrate on details that you can’t find anywhere else. My focus is on helping you pass the PHRi – HRBP exam. Please take note of the following details.
PHRi – HRBP EXAMINATION STUDY GUIDE
 The PHRi – HRBP exam is a multiple choice assessment that test not only how far you know the HR function but also your ability to apply standard HR best practice.
 Most of the time it is more difficult for someone who does not have the required experience in a structured HR setting to pass the exam.
 If you do not work in a structured HR setting where HR best practices is embraced or do not have the required years of experience then you have to prepare twice as hard.
 The fact that it is multiple choice exams does not mean it is easier than essay exams rather it requires students to be familiar with a much broader range of HR concepts, processes and procedures because the PHRi –HRBP exam contains a lot of questions than any essay exams.
 Even a well-prepared student can make silly mistakes on the PHRi – HRBP exams, or can fall prey to distracters that look very similar to the correct answer.
 Sometimes all the options in a PHRi –HRBP exam question may appear correct. This is one of the features that make the PHRi – HRBP questions difficult to answer.

A junior colleague wrote the PHRi exam and failed after saving and spending some months salary she was devastated. What she said after the exam was that the questions were easy but “somehow”. * Tip 4- Early preparation is key. Another tip I would like to give is that you have to constantly remember it's an international certification and not base your answers on Nigeria hr practice. I made that mistake while answering some past questions. Thank God I got back on track before the exams in March. You have to open your mind and learn HR best practice beyond our shores. * Tip 6- More often than not, folks around here fail international exams not because they are dull, but because they, most of the time, use their experience, as against best practice, to answer the questions.  If two or more alternatives say the same thing, each is probably wrong (you can have two options that are wrong, but not two that are right).
 If you cannot answer a question within a minute or less, skip it and plan to come back later. The answer to one question is sometimes given away in another question (tests contain a lot of information - when you come back to the question you might have better understanding of it.
 Your knowledge and experience of the HR structure is very useful so do not limit yourself to the PHRi study material. Answer the questions based on your HR work experience provided you work in a structured HR environment where standard practice is embraced.
 It's true that some PHRIi – HRBP questions may be worded awkwardly, this will therefore require additional effort to decode the questions. However, very few of the questions are deliberately "tricky." The questions are designed to challenge you and encourage you to think, but not lead you to the wrong answer.

Decoding Difficult PHRi-HRBP, SPHRi-HRMP exam Questions

The language of the PHRi or SPHRi exam can sometimes lead to confusion about what the question is really asking. Try these techniques when you encounter a question with difficult or confusing wording:
• Translate the question into your own words
• Pay attention to small but important words, such as “Not” or “Always”
• If you have difficulty selecting an answer try checking the options to see if you can detect the knowledge area the question is testing this will also help to choose the right answer
• Pay attention to absolute terms, such as never, always or none. They often (but not always) indicate that the statement is false
• Watch out for double negatives, such as not, unless or none. You might find it helpful to rephrase stems with two negatives to positive terms
• Watch out for distractors — bits of information that might distract you from the real purpose of the question. As you read the stem, cross out the distractors and underline the key points in your mind ( because you can't write on the question paper) to help you maintain focus.
