The real story:A deathtrap ongoing building collapses opposite Federal Polytechnic Oko Permsite: It was a tragic Sunday as an ongoing building belonging to an anonymous person got collapsed with yet to be ascertained number of persons trapped underneath. The NEMA responded as quick as they could just this morning to make sure that the trapped workers are exhumed alive. The Digital Rector of the polytechnic responded with his Management team as earlier as usual to make sure that the collapsed building and its surroundings are cordoned off students to avoid future mishaps. The Rector blamed the collapsed building on inferior materials and berated the building contractors for putting up such gigantic 3-4Storey structure without a solid foundation. While thanking God that non of his students was affected, he directed that all students whose hostels are close to the failed building be given a tentative accommodation inside the school hostels pending when the Anambra materials testing Laboratory satisfies the fitness of occupancy of the surrounding hostels. He also engaged the Anambra State Laboratory test staff to quickly start testing other hostels susceptible to cracks within and outside the school. The Governor,Chief Willie Obiano who later joined the Rector in the site, thanked God that no life was lost as at the time of filling this report. He however called on all the agencies involved in such incidences to get to work and make sure that the Engineer and the building principal be brought to book if found culpable in poor material management.

The building looks like it was under construction (no plaster on the blocks, and all those planks are highly suggestive). Did the place experience very heavy rains recently? I wonder if the fault was in the erosion of ground supporting the foundation?

A three storey building collapsed at the permanent site of Federal Polytechnic Oko, Amaokpala, Anambra State, today Monday 23 May, 2016, at about 8:45 am. According to eye witnesses, they started hearing funny cracking sounds from a part of the building, and in less that 10 minutes, the building was flat on the ground.. The NEMA team was there in no time to rescue the situation.

As at now, there is no accurate number of casualties, but will update once a concrete information is received. Meanwhile some of the injured are receiving treatments at various hospitals. More pictures below...

A deathtrap ongoing building collapses opposite Federal Polytechnic Oko Permsite: It was a tragic Sunday as an ongoing building belonging to an anonymous person got collapsed with yet to be ascertained number of persons trapped underneath. The Incident happened on Sunday evening by 5pm and not yesterday morning as claimed by the Poster above. The Poster came to the scene as shown by his pictures but he was so quick to report wrongly. It is a private owned ongoing hostel and it doesnt belong to Fed Poly Oko. And no casualty is yet recorded. The NEMA responded as quick as they could just this morning to make sure that the trapped workers are exhumed alive. The Digital Rector of the polytechnic responded with his Management team as earlier as usual to make sure that the collapsed building and its surroundings are cordoned off students to avoid future mishaps. A deathtrap ongoing building collapses opposite Federal Polytechnic Oko Permsite: It was a tragic Sunday as an ongoing building belonging to an anonymous person got collapsed with yet to be ascertained number of persons trapped underneath. So, it is not in Federal Poly Oko but opposite the school and it happened on Sunday evening not Monday as you claimed. Engineers should be blamed for buildings collapse!
. collapse of building is not mostly from the engineers but people don't believed that their are some people that are not an engineer and they execute project base on their experience. so for such people no test will be carried out talk less of providing structural design. it is the duty of our government to mandate a rule that people must follow that building above 2 storey must not be executed without the thorough intervention in respect of the engineer calibers and integrity. thanks

In that case whoever acted as the quack engineer shall be held responsible, and the owner of the building.
