Shipping Cars Above 10 Years To Nigeria. by HC: 10:20am On Aug 23, 2009
hey people, i'll like to know is i can ship a 1996 car to Nigeria from the US. I understand there are laws forbidding cars over 10 yeara from being shipped into the country, is there an alternative to shipping the car down.

you are asking us to tell you how to break a law - and you will be the first to shout how bad nigeria has become.

firstly, am not asking to break the law. There are old cars everywhere for sale and i always wonder how they get them into the country.

@ HC . Most shipping companies abroad refuse to ship cars above ten years old to nigeria. Infact 9.5 yrs old precisely. So as a general rule of thumb the earliest car you can ship in is from 2000 upwards. Most of the old car you see being brought into the country are from cotonou port. THANKS.

As long as you can lift the car from US, my agent will clear it for you here in lagos. The major coma is if your shipping agent will lift it for you. If they can, then, you can clear the car here in lagos port. I am 100% sure of that.

@2legit2quit, I agree my friend .Ur right. the police, customs ,roads safety and VIO give uneccessary hassle for them old imported cars. not worth the hassle. Its best for people to do things the right way and abide by the law in order to make this country a better place.

the truth of the issue is u can bring in a 1990 car thru lagos. The car should be containerised among cars that are less that 10yrs,it will pass thru with no issues. It is being done every day,i have seen golf 2 lagos cleared just to mention 1
