We just received this piece of news, amidst the increasing hunger in the land. An internal memo which we got hold of suggests that the government of Imo State, has increased the tuition fees of Imo State University students by more than 100%

Internal Memo:

“Please be informed that the University Council has approved the payment of the under-listed category of tuition fee by students of Imo State University who are not of Imo State Origin, thus:

Faculty of Engineering = N180,000,00
Other Faculties = N150,000,00

The payment of these fees is with effect from the current 2015/2016 Academic Session.

By a copy of this memo, the University bursar is to take necessary action to ensure strict compliance with this directives of the University Council.

Governor Rochas Okorocha on his 2016 Democracy Day broadcast monitored through Radio Nigeria programme, tagged Radio Link, has emphasised that the new payment regime at Imo State University and Imo State Polytechnics, takes effect this month, urging all parents and guardians to ensure compliance.

While, Imo State University academic and non-cademic Staff are on indefinite strike for none payment of Salaries and arrears of the University lecturers and workers. Academic activities have grounded to a halt for 3 months now and counting. …

You could recall, that the Tuition fee of Imo State University students both Indigenes and Non-indigenes as inherited by the Okorocha led administration in 2011 was pegged at N35,000,00(thirty Five Thousand Naira). Same period under previous administration, acceptance fee was N20,000 and under Okorocha’s free education, acceptance is pegged at N70,000.
