The epileptic power supply in Nigeria may be coming to an end soon and the country has beenseeking to go Nuclear on its generation of power(Though many are sceptical about this). The Nigerian Atomic Energy Commission is making good its promises as the agency has gone ahead to ink a deal with Russia and Nigeria in an intergovernmental agreement the build a centre for nuclear science in the country.Franklin Osaisai, chairman of the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission and Sergey Kirienko, the general director of Russia’s state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom both put pen to paper at the Atomexpo 2016 forumin Moscow. The nuclear plant should hit the ground by 2025 and it is expected that a 10 megawatt (MW) water cooled research reactor would be constructed atthe centre which is embedded in the agreement. As much as this sounds like good news, running a nuclear plant is a very technical thing to do andI hope the Government of Nigeria will be responsible enough to allow the best of hands tohandle the centre because of the enormous risk involved in managing a nuclear reactor.Though many Nigeria are very sceptical about going nuclear on generation of power due to it radioactive by product, we hope that there will adequate training of those that will run the plant so as not to put its citizens and the environment in hazards
