Hurray! A new professor of Nursing
has emerged in Nigeria. Bayero
University Kano celebrates Prof
Adelani Tijani, the First indigenous
Professor of Nursing in Northern
part of Nigeria on 2nd June, 2016.
Prof Adelani Tijani is the 13th
Professor of Nursing to be ever
appointed in Nigerian history.

According to the Professor of Public
Health Nursing, he is the 13th
Professor of Nursing in Nigeria and
indeed the 11th in active service. He
traced the history of nursing
professorial appointment to the
University of Ibadan where Prof.
Elfrida Adebo was appointed the first
professor of nursing in Nigeria in
1984.

He went further to say that the
second professor - Prof M.K Jinadu
was appointed in the Obafemi
Awolowo University Ile Ife in 1996.

The first professor is dead long time
ago and the second one has retired
from active service hence leaving
just eleven professors in the active
service of 23 NUC recognised
departments of nursing in Nigeria.
All the principal officers of the
university in attendance have kind
words for the newest Nursing
professor in Nigeria.

NANNM president, represented by
the National Treasurer praised the
university for honouring nursing by
appointing the professor.
Prof. Tijani concluded his speech by
praising the effort of his former
teacher and mentor - Prof. R.B
Fajemilehin

He said the professor is the 3rd
professor appointed in Nigeria...and
the second one appointed in OAU Ife
in 2004.

He said he gained a lot from Prof
Fajemilehin. He also said the
professor has done many things to
improve his own academic life.

Tijani.
