Alaafin disowns ace Fuji musician, Wasiu Ayinde
From AKEEB ALARAPE, Ibadan

Wednesday, August 26, 2009
Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111, has said that he never conferred any chieftaincy title on ace Fuji musician, Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshal. In a statement made available to newsmen in Ibadan on Tuesday by the Principal Private Secretary to Alaafin, Alhaji Olayiwola Folarin, the royal majesty denied conferring the chieftaincy title of Mayegun of Yorubaland on Ayinde popularly called ‘K1 De Ultimate’ during his recent visit to the palace.

According to the statement, Ayinde, in company of the Osolo of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka and one of Alaafin’s sons, Captain Kola Raheem, had paid a courtesy visit on Alaafin on the fateful day based on earlier discussion and request made to the Alaafin.

“The Alaafin, as a father to all in Yorubaland and beyond, only granted a request from the Osolo of Isolo, Oba Kabiru Agbabiaka, and one of Alaafin sons, Captain Kola Raheem, who both sought to bring Alhaji Ayinde to pay a private visit to the Alaafin in the palace.

“Following that request, Alhaji Ayinde, in company of Osolo and some of his friends, visited the Alaafin’s palace on Wednesday 19, August, 2009.

“And I recollect vividly, even with recorded evidence, that when the Kabiyesi came into the hall to receive the visitors and asked for the mission of Alhaji Ayinde in the palace, they all said it was a courtesy call,” the statement said.

The palace spokesman explained that “even when the Alaafin had a brief private discussion with the trio of Ayinde, Osolo and Raheem, where the issue of chieftaincy title for the musician was raised, he made some observations about the lifestyle of Ayinde which he said needed to be worked upon before he could be so considered.

“However, less than 48 hours after that visit, stories began to fly in newspapers that a chieftaincy title of Mayegun of Yorubaland had already been conferred on him,” the statement added.

Describing the claim as “a total falsehood, emanating from an inordinate ambition of its proponents,” Folarin urged the public to discountenance the claim, saying that it was meant “to embarrass the Alaafin which was not expected from a person of Alhaji Ayinde.

“In the tradition of the Alaafin, we have a standard to follow whenever an individual is to be honoured. We don’t confer our titles in the sitting room, rather, after the due process must have been followed, it is done openly with fanfare,” Folarin explained.
