Pls voices of reason should start clarifying issues because there are so many dunces online. Importation of rice was only banned across land borders because of some reasons 1) it was used to short change the FGN 2)it was used to smuggle in firearms and illicit drugs. One may wonder where boko haram and the rest of the terror groups were getting their weapons. The land border was used for the proliferation of small and light weapons in Nigeria. Also it fueled the illicit drug market. 3.this apparent shortage will FORCE us as a nation to produce what we eat. The Asian Tigers and Western nations have for long via their farm subsidy policy help under developed African by allowing us to import cheap rice and other food items that we could have grown locally. Before now eating rice was luxury and we did not die. Buharis is the only president that has shown the political will to develop this nation so far. |

EzeNri:chest beating as usual. what have you achieved in the south east that southwest hasn't achieved and more. you said SE was developed without federal help, so what was the three R's of the gowon administration meant for? Infact the project was funded via agriculture related income, in particular cocoa. tell me one prominent industry own by a Ibo man in the SW. you are also a pathetic liar, coz dangote a Fulani man contributes the largest indegenious GDP to the nation's economy outside oil and gas. check Forbes list again, the top five richest men in Nigeria are from the two regions you speak stvpidly about. the richest black man and woman are also from their clan. dangote the world knows otedola the world knows Mike adenuga the world knows rabiu the owner of BUA group the world knows folorumsho alakija the world knows oba otudeko the world knows even baba ijebu (premier lotto ) the world know. tell me the miloionaires you so much boast of from your erosive region. you claim not to have federal developments but weep daily for a second Niger bridge. your families from the village throw up a party at the chance of their child coming to the southwest. we deported you guys back to your erosive land, but you came back begging claiming one Nigeria. Forbes recently conducted a survey on new Africa millionaires and four out of ten in the whole of Africa had to come from sw. the global world doesn't take you guys serious, coz you are only good in the production of sub standard products and repackaging of expired goods, this is also coupled with your daily trial across The globe over drug trafficking related issues. even your own state government can't patronise that cheap moving metal you call innoson whatever. stop being silly, you can chest beat for the fulanis, but don't in anyway come close to the Yorubas. we miles apart. |

19naia: Benin Republic imports a lot of rice. That rice is then smuggled into Nigeria. Smuggling goods into Nigeria is why a lot of goods are imported into Benin Republic. They don't grow much either. Most farming there is subsistence in nature. 1 Like |

mmsen: Ah ok, i was not so sure where all their rice comes from but i know they have good prices and grow a significant amount to keep themselves filled as well as manage a market flow of surplus (be it import or local). They do really well in Agriculture for their size and stature in Africa, no doubt about that. The Key is that they "do it" . Nigeria as well should just "do it" beyond talk. Grow more crops. Populatin is growing but crops are not. Not a good recipe for people's kitchens. |
Re: Sultan Of Sokoto: "There Is No Food In Nigeria" by mmsen: 5:41pm On Jun 14, 2016 |
19naia: They don't grow more than Nigeria proportionally. If anything it's less. What they've done is lower tariffs so that it's cheaper to import into Cotonou than Lagos. Also, a lot of Nigerians are there hoarding rice to sell when the prices are high across the border. |

At times, I wonder if this Buhari government remembered how those that voted him into power stood under the sun,the rain even till midnight to cast their loyal vote for him to get things right as expected. Today, common food for them to eat, fuel to travel, work to do,e.t.c is nowhere to be found and the same President is on leave after instructing that no Nigerian politicians or civil servants of any level should travel abroad to buy paracetamol talkless going for medical treatment. Mr. President,I advise you to call upon the past leaders most especially immediate past President in the person of Goodluck Jonathan to make him your prime minister or whatever position to can think out now to direct you on how our GDP increased and things was better off. A word is enough for the wise as I know you are a listening leader. God keep and bless you with solomonic wisdom... 1 Like |

mmsen: They have a small population but a significant agric and international commerce level for their size. I was on the remote border there last year and saw all the games going on with customs and rice transporters. Even my hired car driver was carrying rice across the border in the minimal amount allowed as he crosses the border with passengers several times daily and the small amount of rice eventually adds up to a full sack. He told us about the games and how there is a cartel style group there on the rice smuggling trail who work with customs in secret and do price gouging antics like hoarding. basic Things were so much cheaper in Benin but they dont have so much a population to pressure their domestic markets. And their potential for earnings are not very high. Fuel problems there also but they always seem to have fuel selling by the road side in bottles. No real shortages like Nigeria fuel crisis, they always find a way. I was in Togo also and saw their extensive port activities with ships lined up at sea as far as the eye could see, waiting for days to unload at port. Its was strange to see such a small town atmosphere in Lome and Benin, yet their ports were busy beyond belief. And to think all that from togo and benin ports combined was servicing Nigeria demand and still scarcity is an issue in Nigeria. |

irunooboo: I know you are autistic, going by your face. Nevertheless, one would expect you to be reasonable sometimes. What has the post got to do with any region? Did the post in any way suggest that the North feeds the nation? Why are you so full of evil thoughts? What did the SE people do to you and your likes? If SE is eroded and they have nothing to offer Nigeria, why are you still saying NO to their demand? Let them go then. You better ask your mom if she fuccked Ali Modu Sheriff. The resemblance is so uncanny. |
