Hello everyone!

We are here with a very important topic. It’s the issue of dressing and the way we put our outfits together when we are going for an interview.

I know we want to make a good impression but PLEASE guys, it is not an opportunity for you to show your fashion sense. It’s not an opportunity to show us “colour blocking”, “ripped jeans” or “half tops” with micro mini skirts.

It is also not necessary for you to come for an interview dressed like you are going to church.

First and foremost you must consider the organization in which you are to be interviewed. What is their dress code, what do they expect from you. Various multinationals have various fashion ethics, you will be surprised to find out that some organizations have a “no tie” policy. If you go for an interview in such an organization dressed formally, it will count for nothing to your interviewer.

In as much as you need to make a good impression, you can never go wrong with a well ironed shirt, a mono coloured trouser (a blazer is a good addition) and a formal shoe that matches your belt.

For ladies, a shirt and skirt or trouser suit is fine. Don’t assault your interviewer’s senses with colour riot or badly put together attires. This alone can mar the interview for you as a person’s dressing speaks volumes about the person.

A lady once came for an interview dressed in something that looks like a wedding gown! I was amazed, I couldn’t imagine what she intended to prove by dressing like that. Did she not have a skirt and shirt in her wardrobe?

Some guy came dressed like an Italian Don complete with a cane! Unbelievable right? You are there for a job interview not a fashion parade. Don’t go for an interview overdressed, it could backfire and you could come off as someone who is unserious or overtly concerned with their appearance over their value.

In conclusion, keep it neat and simple.

Remember, you don’t bring a knife to a gun fight.
