Well to some extent.

If they can afford NEBOSH, then why not? For those who cannot, they can start with Levels 1 to 3 which are generally on HSE Appreciation.

However, If I was employing based on entry Level (Graduate Trainee Level 8 ) I will consider NEBOSH as an advantage over NISP/ISPON levels 1-3.

Fact is you cannot have NEBOSH IGC, etc and work as a Chemical Process Safety Professional. You will blow up the facility. NEBOSH IGC to me is very rudimentary, but more comprehensive when compared to ISPON Levels 1,2, 3 .

In my opinion, it is from NEBOSH IDP that I believe one begins to learn about safety of Engineered Systems and some serious work. It is then issues concerning reliability, safety integrity levels, operablility issues, functional safety etc. Come into play. I have a Masters in "Risk Engineering: Safety Engineering and Management". So you will understand why NEBOSH IGC is rudimentary to me.

In my opinion, let them do it if they can afford it. If they cannot, then they go for the others. But I will prefer NEBOSH over ISPON HSE Level 1,2,3 courses if I am recruiting. However, NEBOSH IGC does not even become sufficient in certain levels of practice and to me it is still rudimentary and can be acquired by those seeking employment.

I think, we are basically saying the same thing. As you said, even with NEBOSH, you may still not qualify to work as a safety professional at certain levels. Because NEBOSH is not supposed to be academic but go hand-in-hand with practice.

That is why I think if you can avoid spending all that money at the outset, without any assurances, you should.

Because Nigeria is so international credentials crazy, that is why our course offers a fast track to membership of IIRSM, which gives the holder a lot of advantages in the job marketplace.

Thanks for your contributions. Appreciated.

@anakin, Impressive!
Too many information at the same time! my brain is finding it too difficult to process all at the same time.
But all the certification looks pretty the same to me. Ispon hse 1,2,3,nisp, nebosh igc, nebosh idp etc.
pls kindly highlight their differences, and also area or level of specialisation where each certifications is needed.
thanks in anticipation.,

Well said ...the Op is just marketing
My opinion based on experience :Neither would guarantee a job in safety .

I have both certificate and still job hunting for close to 1year now ..I think experience is more important

so I look to volunteering to help compliment my certifications

I was concerned because it sounded as if NEBOSH is a waste if one is not working. Even if you are not working, the manuals are there for you to read. There are HSE blogs where professionals bring their professional challenges on HSE and we all contribute to the solutions. You will be shocked how many problems are out there under various industrial domains and how challenging it can be to solve some of these.

I have been practicing HSE for over 10 years. And not just HSE Appreciation (slip trips and falls, work permit type HSE), No. Technical Safety and Safety Engineering of virtual and physically engineered system especially under the chemical process safety domain.

My take is, all things being equal, save for NEBOSH and HSE Levels 1-3, I will gladly choose NEBOSH (even though to a professional like me, it is very rudimentary). NEBOSH has a wider coverage than the other.

Have you ever been involved in Environmental Impact Studies? How good are you in writing reports and interpreting data?

If you wish, you can kindly send me your resume. Especially if you are Lagos based.
