The Federal Government has extended the public holidays for the Eid-el-fitr celebration to Thursday July 7th July, 2016. A statement from the office Minister of Interior Abdulrahman Dambazau which was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Bassey Okon Akpanyung and released today, states that the extension is as a result of the decision of the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, to extend the Ramadan fast to today Tuesday July 5th following the non-sighting of the moon.
