We’ve seen several laptops “die” because of liquid spills so it’s not wise you gamble with yours.
The first thing to do when water spills on your laptop is to unplug your laptop (If it’s plugged into a power source) and take out all of the easy-to-remove components especially the battery and set them aside to dry separately.
Tilt the system on its side to help drain the water out. Do yourself a favor and put a towel underneath. Try to keep the liquid away from the display as you’re removing the laptop parts and draining the system. It’s a good idea to let the machine sit near a cooling air vent.
If it’s just water especially non-sugared water that you’ve spilled, your chances of saving it are much better. Although it’s important to act quickly, THE WORST THING YOU CAN DO TO A WET LAPTOP IS TO START IT UP RIGHT AWAY TO SEE IF IT WORKS. If there’s water inside, you run the risk of creating a short circuit and potentially causing permanent damage. The thing to do is to calm down and dry out the system before hitting the power button and this should be done by a proficient laptop engineer/technician.
If you’ve spilled tea (especially sugared) or your favorite soft drink into your laptop, you could be out of luck. Anything with sugar could mean death — once it dries, it’s there forever, eating away at your system’s components. At this point, you should send it to a professional laptop repairs shop as soon as possible.
