Please am seriously considering buying a new car even if a Kia Picanto instead of getting duped and cheated by mechanics who dont have any conscience when dealing with car owners. I have caught ma mechanic several times collecting monies from me far in excess of market prices (sometimes twice) for my car spare parts, at least with a new car I could mitigate how much my mechanic will cheat me as the frequency of faults on the car will be reduced drastically, but my problem is will a car like Kia Picanto which is around the limit I can afford now be able to enable me shuttle Port Harcourt and Lagos at least once every 2 months. |

Just like Middleman said, it will be wise to buy a good tokunbo car instead buying a Kia Picanto that will not be able to withstand the long distance drive from Lagos to PH. Besides, there are very strong and reliable tokunbo cars that you can drive for 1-3 years without any faults as long as you service and maintain the car as at when due. A car is just like the human body, it requires constant care the same way we eat, bath and take care of ourselves. I wish you all the best. |

Hi Poster, I have used cars and travelled the Lagos / PH route for 6 years going. The strength of the car is not match for the deadly potholes on our roads (consider Ore (Ondo State) to Benin Bye Pass; also, Aba PH express). The cost of kia picanto is about the same for a 1998 toyota camry (tokunbo). Dealers on Nairaland can be of help. Check out people like friendl, carshopper, inspired, ayodeji etc. Do not buy that matchbox called kia picanto for that kind of journey. We have it at home(my wife's won it during glo promo) we use for my kids school run within an estate in Lagos. It is my sincere opinion. Good luck! |

I work for kia motors and my cousin bought a picanto from me in january, the car was delivered to her from lagos with no issues whatever and since it's a utility car for her, she gets a lot of use from the car, the thing is if you're not farmiliar with a vehicle brand, it's better to keep quiet than say things you have no fact to back up with, the kia picanto is a good car, fuel efficient, a car of convenience and very reasonably priced, so my dear, ignore the ignorant remarks and go for the picanto (if that's ur choice), |

A friend of mine had used KIA Picanto for a 6 hours journey and back 6 hours next day without any issue. Any car can travel from Lagos to Maiduguri or PH to Maiduguri or Sokoto. Is it not a car? even 1986 toyota corolla can travel round Nigeria. The KIA Picanto will do just fine unless you are thinking that size matters. It does not matter. Car na Car for journey. you may only not reach your destination same time. |

indie22: Please keep quiet. The poster is asking if he can travel with a kia picanto from Lagos to PH and u are advertising like he asked to buy a new car, a 1.1 ltr engine, I doubt if it won't veer into the bush at the wind pressure accumulated from Luxury buses and heavy duty vehicles along the expressway. It's like been on a suicide mission, I am sure the poster is not from afghanistan., The car is not even sold in the US so that should tell you it's a no go area kind of car in term of rating |

Picanto might travel regardless of its size of its engine u never can tell wen it might disappoint u. U can settle for a toks peugeot, dis cars are reliable, u can even see its old models on the street of lagos. I think peugeots are reliable. If u need some let me know.

Not matter how it is put a brand new car is a brand new car and a used car is a used car. In terms of performance you can rely on a brand new car and also get great after sales benefits like factory warranty and free services from acredited dealers and technicians with up to date tools. Maintainance is the most important aspect of owning a car, a car that is maintained properly, even if it is a small car can perform better than a big car that is not maintained properly. I agree picanto is a small car but you will be suprised that this little car can serve you more than a toks. Buzz me for further information on the Picanto 08072971670 |

@poster, Don't mind all the write up trying to discourage you above. The answer to your question is YES. I have travailed to PH before with a Hyundai GETZ, and the ride was so smooth. All you have to do make sure your car is well serviced and the tyres, I repeat the tyres pressures are okay. Also what we did was to have planned stop points along the way to rest the engine. We went through Ore, Benin, Warri and a point just before PH. Don't be in a hurry, drive gently and have fun. 1 Like |

From my own experience it is better to buy a cheap brand new car dan any tokunbo brand. My husband uses his Kia Picanto to ply Abuja - Owerri route regularly and ve not had any problem maybe because he does his scheduled service on time (i dont know) but i know Kia/Hyundai Products are cheap and reliable that is if u call 1.4million cheap. I use a Kia - Rio and equally ve not had any problem with it for the past 1 and half years. The problems with a lot of drivers in Nigeria is in-patience, u see a pothole/bad road instead of avoiding it or go over gently most drivers just speed over dem. No matter how great a car is, if proper maintenance and careful driving is not adhered to it can collapse even on the day of purchase |

If you must travel long range, don't buy any car with an engine less than 1.6L. A 1.4L and below will go but you are stressing it |

Dont ever try it!!!! Picanto is a light utility car and not strong enough for such an adventure as yours. Take to previous advice on a good Tokunbo, for example the Toyota Camry 1998. Picanto is meant for teenage female students on a private university campus. 1 Like |

aduje: I like this answer. Honestly, i dont think that stressing a 1.1L engine for that distance is fair. As a driver, i dont think you will enjoy the drive either. I would think that instead of spending 1.5M naira or thereabout on a new car (that will suffer the wear and tear of that distance due to the roads and stress on the engine) why dont you spend 2M on a very good imported car from America (Honda, Toyota, etc) as advertised here in Nairaland. Many of those cars have done less that 20000m (some even less than 10k) and will serve you well for a few years or more. Regardless of the newness of the picanto, driving on those roads in the east with trailers, lorries, luxury buses, 15 seaters and so on is no joke. They will 'blow' you off the road. Consider also the mentality of those drivers on the road. The smaller your car is, the more likely they are to 'chance' you each time they have the opportunity. Consider your safety too. We do not pray for accidents but imagine what will happen to a picanto if a bigger car (and not even a trailer) runs into it. Picanto's are best for inner city roads where you can save on fuel costs, easily manouvre btw bigger cars and park in the smallest space. They are not built for long journeys especially on very rough roads. |

Poster I don't think its about pot holes and light weight and heavy weight trucks and luxury buses blowing you off the road Of course they count but thats not the main thing. . . . u want to travel to from Lagos to PH once every two month? I don't think a 1.1 litred engine car was built for this sort of journey. Its just not suitable. They will go and return but for how long. I reckon they won't last for as long as the bigger 1.8 - 2.4 litre engines U won't if you are a professional driver, enjoy the driving. The engines will wear on time and surely send you to the mechanic for maintenance. . .as for your question, it can carry you but for how long Compact cars were built to withstand city transportation where movement is slower and take less fuel. So think about a tokunbo car or well raise your budget to at least that of a Cerato if you must get a new car |

Seriously Picanto or any of those bloody aluminium on tyres called Kia's are not capable. . . . No disrespect though! Haba, threre's been a lot of improvement on Korean automobile technology and its closing on to the Japanese position. Kia and Hyundai are dishing out good and affordable cars recently. Its that slogan that pisses me "KIA, the car that cares". STUPID. |
